The lengthy Democratic primary contest bodes well for Republican chances of holding the White House, a new poll suggests.
As Democratic Senators Barack Obama of Illinois and Hillary Clinton of New York slug it out for the nomination, many of their supporters -- at least in Pennsylvania, site of the next major primary -- aren't committed to the party's ticket in November, according to a Franklin & Marshall College Poll.
Among Obama supporters, 20 percent said they would vote for Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the Republican nominee, if Clinton beats their candidate for the nomination. Among Clinton supporters, 19 percent said they would support McCain in November if Obama is the Democratic nominee. (See poll)
The significant number of potential defectors underscores how divisive the Democratic primary has been.

Expect McCain to step left when this news sinks in. He’s going to show his true colors.
Operation Chaos.
I wouldn’t put them in the genius category...after all, they’re supporting a Dem now.
Don’t rain on our parade. This makes it even more safe for McCain to move FURTHER RIGHT. He sees he doesn’t need to appeal to those in the other party to win, he can win it just running as a Republican.

I would cempare this to many Republicans who say they wouldn’t support anyone but “their” candidate a month or two ago.
Now, some of us will hold our noses and our stomachs and vote for McCain.
Good news! 20% will help.
many Jews in my usually liberal synagogue are turned off by Obama, unimpressed with Hillary and already talking about voting for McCain. that’s a real eye-opener.
Looks like Rush’s strategery is working!
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Wishful thinking as I doubt that many dims will abandon their silly liberal party.
What happens if it’s a Hillary/Obama ticket?
So - which of the 3 democrats running for President do you think will win?
I’m guessing McCain - a conservative Democrat with no Republican opponent.
That poll underestimates, I think, the number. 20% said they’d cross over. Double that number is probably the real amount.
As much as I dislike McCain, he’ll be a better CinC than the two Neville Chamberlains in the Democrat party.
Doubt it will happen.
SAY WHAT???
Its just the opposite
What this means is the McLame will NOT see fit to make any attempt to assuage the Right.
If this condition persists, he will feel justified in continued pandering to the left and reaching out to the other side with conciliatory gestures.
McLame won’t need my vote after all.
Many of them simply said so because they’re angry at each other now. Of the 20%, majority will vote for a Dim.
