Yes, part of this is Morris’s hatred of hillary, but part of it is his incomprehension of religion.

What kind of impression will people get of Barrack Obama if they conclude that he spent 20 years in this racist church, and brought up his children there, just because it was politically useful? Is that a reason for going to church every Sunday?

Among the chattering classes, nobody is religious, so this behavior is perfectly comprehensible. In fact, it’s better if Obama doesn’t believe any of that religious nonsense. But ordinary Americans, including many Democrats, are at least 70% religious in some way.

This kind of opportunitist hypocrisy won’t go over very well. It’s much worse than not going to church at all. They may not say anything, or even think it through, but their picture of Obama will be considerably less warm and fuzzy.

I agree with your post 16.
To the unbeliever - this Wright business is no big deal. Neither is belonging to a church for 20 years that espouses racial divisions and hatred. But to anyone who is sincere in their belief, and who have a reverence and fear for the God of the Bible - this stuff will cause them to blow a gasket. Wright's insults were bad enough - if made outside of the Church on a street corner - but to carry on like he did inside of Church, during a Sunday service (as shown on the 'Best of Wright DVD'), in an irreverent and profane manner - taking the LORD's name in vain - is beyond the pale.
Mr. Obama sat through this stuff for 20 years.
It matters.
It probably wouldn't matter in Europe. And the ~30% of America who don't worship God won't understand at all why it matters. But to the other 70% (to varying degrees) it matters.

I agree with you 100% . . . Morris is not religious or he would understand why this is a big deal and why it is not going away. Obama’s religious beliefs and the church he chooses go to the core of who he is as a man. Period.
