A Closer Look at Black Liberation Theology (NPR covers for Obama)
NPR ^ | 3-18-08 | Barbara Hagerty

Posted on 03/19/2008 6:38:12 AM PDT by willk

Presidential contender Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) defended his longtime pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, on Tuesday, even as he repudiated some of the pastor's inflammatory sermons. But Wright's comments likely come as no surprise to those familiar with black liberation theology, a religious philosophy that emerged during the 1960s.

You ought to hear the Black Liberation Theology take on the Exodus.

I heard a preacher once say that the Israelites were allowed to take all of their possessions with them when they left Egypt, but slaves were told to leave the plantation empty handed.

It turned into an argument for reparations.

You're just a racist if you don't understand black theology.

Rev. J.Wright preaches about word for word as government procured American History text books.... One of the reasons why the 40 and under crowd swooooons in a hypnotic trance under the Obama spell. Their brains have been conditioned to respond to words like ‘change’ through ‘hope’.

I guess we just don't understand.

We understand fully.

And we get to decide whether or not to vote for that.

Nobody is entitled to the Presidency of the United States.

No, we understand just fine.

When we hear:

"It [God damn America] means a sacred condemnation by God to a wayward nation who [sic] has strayed from issues of justice, strayed from issues of peace, strayed from issues of reconciliation."

We know what the real meaning is:

It [God damn America] means a sacred condemnation by God to a wayward nation which has tried to stop the welfare gravy train.

Actually the Hebrews extorted the Egyptians: “Give us stuff or we’ll hang around and there will be more plagues...”

but we can’t watch Song Of the South in America today because even though it takes place AFTER the Civil War, those are “happy slaves” singing on the plantation.

I guess that SOME didn’t leave their posessions behind.

If you're not a Marxist, you don't appreciate the real meaning of black theology.

I don’t appreciate it.

You are a racist because of the Original Sin of all white people. It forever stains your bloodline.

The Left has considered this hate filled rhetoric the “crazy uncle” of their political base for a VERY long time. They won’t denounce it.

Realize we are talking about Black Liberation Theology, so there is no need for facts to be dragged into the discussion......

I really don't undertand this:

And the central text for black liberation theology can be found in Chapter 4 of Luke's gospel, where Jesus outlines the purpose of his ministry. "Jesus says my mission is to eradicate poverty and to bring about freedom and liberation for the oppressed," Hopkins says. "And most Christian pastors in America skip over that part of the book."

His mission is to "eradicate poverty"?? I thought He said that He had come to "preach the gospel to the poor" (Luke 4:18). Different missions, it would seem to me.

I heard a black preacher on CNN last night pushing liberation theology.

These guys are so busy trying to fix this world, that they apparently missed the whole friggin' point of the Bible - that this world is corrupted, and men can NEVER fix it.

So-called "social justice" is as much of a false god as Baal is.

My mother was recounting, the other night, how her father took her to a North Carolina black church for about a year in the 60's and she didn't recall anything but an energized congregation and wonderful music.

A hate church is a hate church....black or white.

But we’re supposed to accept it uncritically, even if we find it dubious.

There’s no need to be dragged into Black Liberation Theology, either. It seems like it’s a cover for African-American exceptionalism.
