Here's my reply to a pal about why the double standard:
The new Governor is a black blind guy from Harlem.
The earlier Governor, Eliot Spitzer, was the former Attorney General of the State of New York and the Prosecuting Attorney for the City of York, where he was roundly hated and did things like bust investment banks for things they did to hid Enron's pending failure. He also is the guy that jailed Martha Stewart.
It is reported that when the news broke last week, there was applause on the floor of the NYSE. I read that when the news broke, Merrill Lynch management went out and got lots of Champaign and they took the rest of the day off and everyone got drunk while celebrating the downfall of the Governor.
Someone said that if Sptizer went down to Wall Street to stand in the stream of sympathy, he would not get his feet wet. A pretty funny line
