INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - Indiana's May primary will have meaning in the race for president.
Both democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, have scheduled stops in the Hoosier state.
It all starts on Saturday when Barack Obama holds a town hall meeting at Plainfield High School.
"We're very excited. Senator Obama will...be in Plainfield tomorrow bringing his message of hope and change to the voters of Indiana because Indiana, for the first time in my adult life, is going to matter in the presidential primary season," said Obama campaign chairman Kip Tew.
Indiana has 72 delegates up for grabs and Senator Obama is making an early play for them. But so is Senator Clinton. She has announced plans to head to the Hoosier state next Thursday.
Very few details have been released about Clinton's visit.
"The only thing I've been told is that she will make multiple stops in Indiana, which is really exciting for us. We're going to welcome her to the state and show her some Hoosier hospitality. We're really excited. It sounds like she's going to be spending a lot of time with us and taking this state really seriously," said Clinton campaign chairman, Dan Parker.
In the next few days both campaigns will also be opening and staffing headquarters in the state.
Hoosier voters are happy their votes will make a difference and their opinions will be heard.
"I think it's wonderful that they're coming to our state. I think it's wonderful that for once our state is gonna play a part in the election of the president," said Indiana voter, Betty Curts.
The Obama meeting is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday.
A spokesperson for the senator said they considered many locations for the event but choose Plainfield because it was closest to the airport, large enough to hold 2,000 people and most importantly, available.
The Indiana primary is Tuesday, May 6th.
"God Damn America"
I’m starting to get sick of all the popcorn and may have to switch to tortilla chips.
This is the first time in how long Indiana even mattered in the process? Usually we are told who the delegates are going to be long before we have a chance to vote on them.
Or, best of all, a breaded pork tenderloin sandwich at Waffle House in Seymour.
Wonder if Obamasama is going through there.
Yes, he was here this past weekend and tomorrow it’s the Clintons in Lawrenceburg, Richmond and Fort Wayne. I’m putting out the air fresheners!
Its on the radar because BHO has given up on PA.
PING!
Rush is still trying to set up Hillary so he doesn't have to change his show for another four years (lazy), even though now it's clear (as a select few of us FReepers have been shouting all along from day one of his announcement) that Obama is the weaker candidate. Now you know what the rest of us Midwesterners knew all along.
If Rush genuinely wanted to create "chaos" -- a cartoonish word -- he'd make sure Obama was +200 in pledged delegates going to Denver, forcing any boob to realize she had genuinely stolen the nom; and thus he'd be pushing Obama, not Hillary in Pennsylvania. But, no matter, we will Rush the Vote in Indiana -- for Obama.
PLAINFIELD....because it’s near the Airport?
There is also a large mosque there. Interesting thread from 2002 here:

I’m voting Obama!
Not that I mind. I just see them everywhere down south whenever we travel.
Gary and East Chicago will report 108% voter turnout with 85% going for BHO.
I can’t imagine the stink that is coming my way when Bill arrives in Fort Wayne tomorrow. Of all the days i have to be there. I also find it coinincidental that Evan Bayh just touched down at Fort Wayne airport today according to my 5 o’clock news.
I would wish to say that many in Indiana are dummies. Barack went to Plainfield first because one of the nation’s largest Muslim Brotherhood Mosques is located there.
Hey folks, vote democrat, you get a dhimmi or a dummy. Which would you choose? The outcome is quite the same!
It doesn’t matter. I’m voting for Ron Paul.
Hoosier should I vote for...? ; )
Agreed. The best way to start a RatFight in Denver is to bolster O’bummer - this is getting fun!
Not this Hoosier.
