Royal College warns Abortions can Lead to Mental Illness
The Sunday Times ^ | March 16, 2008 | Sarah-Kate Templeton

Women may be at risk of mental health breakdowns if they have abortions, a medical royal college has warned. The Royal College of Psychiatrists says women should not be allowed to have an abortion until they are counselled on the possible risk to their mental health.

This overturns the consensus that has stood for decades that the risk to mental health of continuing with an unwanted pregnancy outweighs the risks of living with the possible regrets of having an abortion.

MPs will shortly vote on a proposal to reduce the upper time limit for abortions “for social reasons” from 24 weeks to 20 weeks, a move not backed by the government. A Sunday Times poll today shows 59% of women would support such a reduction, with only 28% backing the status quo. Taken together, just under half (48%) of men and women want a reduction to 20 weeks, while 35% want to retain 24 weeks.

But the US Supreme Court ruled that women must be allowed to have late term abortions for health reasons inlcuding mental health.

24 weeks—yikes. I’m almost 22 weeks pregnant with twins, been feeling them kick for a few weeks now, seen ultrasound videos of them in action, moving around and poking at each other—if I decided to abort them for selfish whimsical reasons, you can bet your bottom dollar the guilt and remorse I would feel would definitely lead to mental illness!! :*(

May God have mercy on all of our souls, especially those poor little babies being murdered out there every day in the name of “choice”. :*(

I wonder if this could be the root of Britney Spears’ problems? It seems that her mental collapse started upon the birth of her children. Could she be overcome with some overwhelming guilt? This is only speculation on my part, but I think it would explain a lot.

I’m almost 22 weeks pregnant with twins,

Congratulations and best wishes for the future. I pray that God's richest blessings will be showered on you all and that these children will never know a time outside of His protecting, loving watchcare.

I've thought so. I also think a lot of other disfunctional women have been warped by refusing to repent of this serious wickedness & sin.

You must repent of murder to be forgiven murder.

We were made by God to be of God.

You can either repair your relationship with him or let your sins destroy you from the inside. There is no choice here.

Britney seems to have the classic symptoms of bipolar disorder, the extremes of which can be triggered by the hormonal fluctuations and emotional stresses that occur for some women after childbirth.

You nay be right. But I wonder how many women who have been diagnosed with bipolar disease or post partem depression are secretly carrying around some overwhelming guilt over an abortion they had earlier in life?

Does this warning now nullify the abortion allowed for mental health of the mother argument?
