STD Data Come as No Surprise, Area Teenagers Say

Elizabeth Alderman, adolescent specialist at the Children's Hospital at Montefiore Medical Center in New York, was astounded by a federal report this week showing that two out of five teenage girls who have had sex have experienced at least one sexually transmitted infection.

Lorena Granados, a junior at W.T. Woodson High School in Fairfax County, was not the least bit surprised.

"A lot of girls fall in love, and it doesn't seem they care about protection," she said yesterday. "It's 'What am I going to enjoy right now?' Or they'll say, 'I know he hasn't been with anybody. . . . He's clean.' Or, 'He'll stop before we go too far.' "

That same attitude shows up in doctors' offices, Alderman said yesterday.

"Kids are not comfortable disclosing what they do," she said. "Or when they do come in, every single one will tell you they or their partner are using a condom. Obviously, many are not."

The study, released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, analyzed data on 838 girls ages 14 t0 19 who took part in a 2003-04 government health survey. Overall, one in four girls in the sample, which officials said was nationally representative, had a sexually transmitted disease. The teens were tested for four infections: chlamydia, trichomoniasis, herpes simplex and the human papillomavirus.

There was a big difference by race: Nearly half of the black teens had at least one STD, compared with 20 percent among whites and Mexican Americans.

This has a lot to do with the increase of oral and anal sex. and a general “who cares” attitude.

I am convinced there are some people who just dont care anymore. You have these TV commercials for genital herpes that make it seem like it is normal and no big deal. You have homosexual groups refering to HIV as “the gift”.

Our society is going down hill. it seems like good is bad and bad is good.

It’s more than “who cares”. They actively mock people who are chaste.

A while ago, there was an article that a teen who was doing well on American Idol told the judges he was a virgin. It put him out of the running, because they said they didn’t want anyone who wasn’t a sex symbol.

Society now actively rejects those who follow traditional ideas of chastity and purity. It’s more than pressure now, it’s out and out abuse.

They call good evil, and evil good. And they can’t figure out why they are such a mess. It’s amazing, how everything tends to devolution. From the music to the mores to the education to the literature.

It is so sad.

What so many people my age dont realize is that sex within a loving and committed traditional relationship (preferably marriage) between two young clean people is completely safe, fun and it actully means something. you are like a team. and you can even try new things. depending on what eachother likes and wants, a married couple can do all of the oral and anal they want without worrying about contracting some nasty disease.

and you are in love. there is something more.

why are people rejecting that ? and choosing genital warts, abortions, hurting feelings, destroyed relationships instead ?

people put us down for getting married young. “you might not make it” they say. That is the thinking in our society. and that thinking promotes one night stands and broken relationships.

I have been on both sides of the fence. I have been up late at night scared to death waiting for some girl I had sex with whom I barely knew to call me and tell me the results of her pregnancy test. she called in the morning and said negative and that was the last time I ever heard her voice.

and I have been up late at night with the girl of my dreams in my arms and our bodies melting together so deeply in love. then we got up in the morning and went to church together. held hands walking into church to worship together. knowing we will spend the rest of our lives together as husband and wife.

and there are people who mock christians and mock the traditional way. the traditional way is so much better !

Maybe my new tagline will help the 'chillrun'. Sorry about the spam....NOT!

It's Clinton's new definition of 'sex' that produced this bulls**t.

That’s the problem...most people who have sex equate it with love. No, where there is a desire to fully commit and bond oneself to another for life in the ongoing search for love is most effectively expressed through sexual intercourse. Sex is a very poor substitute for the love that all human beings are looking for. Ask Eliot Spitzer...he’s been trying to find the true meaning of love for years and it has eluded him.
