Actually, I resent the phrase a bit. There is an actual "Possum Trot" in Yancy County, one of the most rural of the 15 counties in my Congressional District. And the folks who live in and around Possum Trot are good, hard-working farmers, or laid-off former employees of closed mills in that County.

The main thing is, the folks in Possum Trot would not have one-tenth of the trouble the national press has had, in figuring out that Bill Clinton is a cur dog who should not be trusted around anything female.

They probably could have figured out Eliot Spitzer as a pious fraud as well. Real people can spot phonies who thump the tub too much for their own claimed "virtue."

Besides, I live by choice in a small town (population 1,000 in the winter) called Highlands, NC. It could just as well be named Possum Trot. So, yes, I do resent Ann's cheap shot with her invented name.
