“It has big black population.”
And a bigger Muslim population.
No,they simply add another superdelegate.
All elected national officials are automatically superdelegates, as are governors and I think Lt. Governors. So Spitzer was a superdelegate, but on Monday when he resigns he won’t be a superdelegate any more, and there will be one less superdelegate.
I don’t know if New York has a process for filling their Lt. Governor slot, but if they do, I guess that person would become a superdelegate — which means you could theoretically see a fight over THAT nomination process by the two presidential candidates.
When Michigan and Florida lost their delegates for having their election too early, they also lost all their superdelegates (I was surprised at that, because I can’t believe the DNC could get elected democrats to agree to give up their power simply because of what their state committee did).
The State Senate majority leader in NY is a Republican — so no the slot won’t be filled. But Lt. Governors don’t get a superdelegate slot. (It wouldn’t be fair: some states, voters elect a Gov./Lt. Gov ticket with one vote, in others, it’s two votes (so they could be of different parties), and here in TN, there is no elected Lt. Gov (State Senate leader fills that function).
OK. The guy who is currently Lt. Governor in New York is already a superdelegate though. I thought it was because he was the Lt. Governor, but maybe he was just a party activist pick. There are many ways to be a superdelegate.
