Andre Carson was elected in Indiana in a special election on Wednesday, becoming the second Muslim in Congress.
Carson was elected to fill the seat left vacant after his grandmother, Democratic Congresswoman Julia Carson, died last December.
Andre Carson, 33, is a member of the Indianapolis City Council who converted to Islam about a decade ago. The first and only other Muslim member of the US Congress is Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota, also a Democrat, who is in his first term.
Unlike Ellison who sparked controversy for swearing his oath on a Koran instead of a Bible, Carson's faith was not mentioned much during his campaign.

Jon Elrod could have won had the NRCC provided some financial assistance, but they were to busy helping Jim Oberweis in Illinois.
My DH and I sure as hell didn’t vote for him.
He wants to sign a timetable agreement for pulling our troops out of Iraq.
I suspect he’s the sympathy vote as his grandmother who held the seat passed away last December.

The GOP has no clue how to run a political race or party. I never saw ONE AD for Elrod on TV and I live in Indy. Carson had multiple ads on the same channels each night. I never saw the GOP once ask Carson about whether he will allow himself to be sworn in on a Bible. There was no mention about Louis Farrakhan speaking at his grandmother's funeral. The GOP is totally inept and is so worried about being politically correct we'll be lucky to keep one seat next Fall. The NRCC needs to get its act together or there won't be a GOP next year.
I have said for years this is a Trojan Horse we have yet to notice. It is the plan of the rest of the world since nobody can beat us militarily.
For the same reason Ellison is...so they can creep into political office and initiate change from within. Glen Beck nailed the tactic in his book An Inconvenient Book...a humorous must read.

It died with the primaries as far as I am concerned. I’ll not vote for their candidate in the general.

Many allegations of vote fraud are floating about today, but I don’t think fraud accounts for the 53-43 Carson victory.

What happened to the rule you have to change your name to some Arabic name when you convert?
Does anyone know if they are true Muslims or are the members of the Nation of Islam. Muslims do not recognize Nation of Islam as true Muslims.
