Dennis Hastert's seat lost in Special Election today
Fox News-Star Tribune ^ | March 8th, 2008 | AP

Posted on 03/08/2008 7:56:08 PM PST by The_Republican

A longtime Republican district fell to the Democrats Saturday when a wealthy businessman and scientist snatched former House Speaker Dennis Hastert's congressional seat in a closely watched special election. Democrat Bill Foster won 52 percent of the vote compared to 48 percent for Republican Jim Oberweis. With 565 of 568 precincts reporting, Foster had 51,140 votes to Oberweis' 46,270.

Depressing news. Short term future kind of looks bleak right now.

I hope his district at least liked all the pork he brought in. He sure didn’t help everyone else.

More mfall-out from Bush’s monumental ineptitude and Dennie Hastert’s regime.

“During his 21 years in Washington, Hastert funneled millions of dollars to the district that stretches from Chicago’s far western suburbs to almost the Mississippi River.”

Apparently his sole achievement but even that seems neglible in the face of Bush’s record.

This is going to be a VERY bad time for us, thanks to Bush and the RINOs like McCain.

Republicans were saddled with an unappealing nominee, thanks in part to Denny Hastert’s endorsement of him in the primary. Than the stupid idiot NRCC dumped money they couldn’t afford to spend into losing this race.

We Republicans need to suck it up and get used to this. November is going to be a massacre. Sorry to be so pessimistic but the handwriting is on the wall. We’ve lost our country. That “new direction” the “media” keeps telling us about is the path to Socialism/Communism.

Get used to it Gang..
we're screwed.
My husband had on an alphabet channel national News network tonight, I recognized Lester Holt. Hubby had been watching golf. I wanted to take a shower when it was over, and I was making dinner in the kitchen at the time of the broadcast and couldn't hear it all.. Thank God!
Do Not Watch TV and encourage your more mentally negligble fellow travelers to turn it off.

It is going to get worse, much worse.

By the time the Democrats are through with the United States, The Nations in Africa will be prosperous by comparsion.

How will they bring this about? When they get the votes they will ratify the Koyto Treaty. And place the United States under the jurisdiction of the World Criminal Gourt.

How are the Democrats coming into power? They are elected by majority vote cast by the American public.

Not familiar with his situation, but I am not very happy with the GOP right now.

They had control of the Congress, the Pres, and an opportunity to do some good and they fiddle farted around.

The American people are buying into socialism.
Foster promises free health care for everyone.
I would have thought Cook county tax increse would scare
voters away from the democrats but it seems as though the people in Dupage and Kane county want high taxes too.
Apparently, Americans believe that government
is the suckling pig of prosperity.

Does this could foreshadow a huge republican loss in
November?

What’s more appalling is that there is a candidate for Congress (another speceial election) with promise in Indianapolis whom the GOP is not supporting because they couldn’t afford to, due to the Oberweis candidacy. How’s that for inept?

“The American people are buying into socialism.”

Hence why leadership is important. Someone needs to explain to the American people why “free” this or “free” that is harmful, unconstitutional and freedom is the better way to go. Bush not only did not step up but made the problem worse with his “compassionate conservatism” big govt spending nonsense.

We’re not going to lose in November. Too much is as stake.

Will 3,000 brave soldiers in Iraq have died for nothing?

Will the shameful legacy of abortion grow stronger, denying yet another generation of unborn children their God-given right to life?

Will we will allow the nanny state to grow stronger, so that it breaks the backs of our children?

Will a woman who’s never been proud of America in her life be First Lady?

We won’t lose in November. We can’t.

This election tonight was another catastrophic public relations loss. Some Repubs think they have a chance in the Indiana special election Tuesday but I don’t see how when even this “solid” GOP district was lost tonight. What other special elections are coming up? Dems will be back up to their 240+ status from the 1970s and 80s unless the trend changes soon, and there is no sign of that.

Wow! This thread is needlessly pessimistic. Hastert’s demise, and that of his former district, does not a November make!@$&$%^#@%^#*&^ I am here to interject HOPE. I tell ya, people criticize me for interjecting HOPE; but HOPE is nothing more, nothing less, that knowing that our country is still the best place in the entire world, and that our country will do the right thing in the end. I also am jazzed that the demodogs are presently in the midst of slaughtering themselves.

So. Please don’t melt down yet. You’ll see. The country is not ready to elect America-haters, nor communists, just yet. And, once the November campaign is stated in those terms, McCain could, ironically, have some enormous coattails. OK, flame away.
