PIERRE, S.D. (AP) Gov. Mike Rounds says President Bush tried again but couldn't persuade him to run for the U.S. Senate this year.
Rounds and first lady Jean Rounds spent two nights at the White House when they were in Washington for the National Governors Association meeting last month.
Last year when Rounds stayed at the White House, Bush also tried to persuade him to run for the Senate but Rounds declined.
Rounds says Bush, in a joking way, tried again this year. The governor says when Bush couldn't get him to run, he turned Jean Rounds and asked if she would be interested.
Rounds says Bush understands that neither he nor his wife will run for the Senate even if he persisted one more time.
Rounds knows that SD won’t turn a sick man out of office, especially if he is a Democrat in a Democrat year.
VP of what?
No surprise here.
Former Lieutenant Governor Steve Kirby probably delayed his decision for this reason, to give Bush time to persuade Rounds. Since it didn’t work, it looks like Kirby will step up to the plate.
Kirby is a distant 2nd tier material. He won’t beat Johnson.

WHY would ANY DECENT Republican run for national office??? The MEDIA and the DEMOCRATS DESTROY THEM.....Ruin their good names and make them spend money on lawyers. Wew ill be lucky if in 3-4 years MOST seats will go unopposed to the Dems.
Well, you wouldn’t want to run a negative campaign against a comatose opponent. But by taking the high road, it might be possible to win.
Conservative states that send liberal rats to the senate. People are ignorant.
Thune should run and win and then resign his other seat to be filled by appointment by Rounds. I’d love to see something like that.

I have to disagree.
I didn’t get a free coat from this bum nor did I get my trip up to the top of Mt. Rushmore.
Davison county and Shannon county be damned, we are going to win this time
