Hillary’s Math Problem
Newsweek ^ | Mar 4, 2008 | Jonathan Alter

Forget tonight. She could win 16 straight and still lose.

Hillary Clinton may be poised for a big night tonight, with wins in Ohio, Texas and Rhode Island. Clinton aides say this will be the beginning of her comeback against Barack Obama. There's only one problem with this analysis: they can't count.

I'm no good at math either, but with the help of Slate’s Delegate Calculator I've scoped out the rest of the primaries, and even if you assume huge Hillary wins from here on out, the numbers don't look good for Clinton. In order to show how deep a hole she's in, I've given her the benefit of the doubt every week for the rest of the primaries.

So here we go: Let's assume Hillary beats expectations and wins Ohio tonight 55-45, Rhode Island 55-45, Texas, 53-47 and (this is highly improbable), ties in Vermont, 50-50.

Wow, jonnie alter is really in the tank for osamaobama. He is however, dealing in facts, something that demonRATs usually eschew.

This kind of analysis is hard for the klintoons to read, because it will just make their task of stealing the nomination that much harder.

But, they'll do it any way.

Something I've been saying for a while. Numbers wise for the Dems and their splitting the delegates in Primaries/Caucasus, this will go to the Convention in Denver and the Superdelegates.

The the real show will begin. Does Florida and Michigan get disenfranchised by Howard Dean and the DNC? Do the Superdelegates follow the will of the voters in popular vote? Do Bill & Hillary break the Party by inflicting their persuasiveness on the Party and indirectly the people in seeking more 'POWER"? Just so many fun-filled hours seeing this 'Love Fest' on your TV screen.

"Math is hard." -- Barbie

I think at this point, it isn't about the math. It's about a floor fight at the convention. All Hillary needs to do (short-term) is stop Obama from running away with this thing.

When it comes to the convention, if she can say, "I won MI, FL, NY, PA, NJ, TX, OH, etc." then she's telling the delegates that she has the power in all of the states they need. Then they hand it to her.

...my bet’s on “Bill and Hillary breaking the party”.

Her math was bad on her 35 years of experience.
Experience of what?

Which states were won by a given candidate that they will likely not win in November?

The article was well-nigh unreadable. But the comments are worth a look!

Pretty good article. How about a McCain/Hillary ticket?

What gets me is that it is all over for Hillary, it has been all over for a while, yet the MSM act like she is still in it. But Huckabee? According to the MSM, he is persona non grata.

I think it’s clear that going into the convention there will be no clear Democratic nominee. This seems assured. Does anyone in this forum seen Clinton backing down or suspending her campaign? Does anyone here in this forum see her as Obama’s VP? I don’t think so. I think it’s clear that she can rationalize that she has won the big states...and though behind in a few delegate votes...she is the best candidate. The super delegates will give Obama the nomination. I just don’t then see her campaigning for him. I really don’t. Does anyone?

OK, but then having run off a string of 16 victories in a row, including several which indicate a swing back to Clinton by black voters, how can you not say that momentum has swung back to Clinton? And with momentum would come the super delegates. And a win under those circumstances would not split the party, while a Clinton nomination in the face of loss after loss would.

Wow! Well if Slate says she can’t win, that’s it, then! LOL

Then they hand it to her.

Then they riot.

This could make this chicago convention disaster of yesteryear look like a picnic.

Obama, FWIW, even though its not important, has gotten something like 2 million more votes then her.

Yes, Obama has a lot more votes in the “popular votes” category. But Democrats hate democracy. They don’t care what the masses want. They care about what the machine can deliver. Right now it’s up in the air whether Hillary’s machine can deliver enough, but I think it can.

She blew it by giving up on all the caucus states and assuming Super Tuesday would end it.

The the real show will begin.

And that "show" will be a Democrat love fest that results in a Dream Team of a Clinton/Obama ticket --- with Hillary on top, of course. The MSM will be in full rapture mode all the way up to the November election.
