KUALA LUMPUR - A Malaysian court jailed on Monday a woman follower of a bizarre cult centred around a giant teapot for declaring herself an apostate while still a Muslim.
Apostasy -- deserting one's religion -- is a criminal offence in mainly Muslim Malaysia, whose state religion is Islam but which tolerates other major religions.
An Islamic court in the northeastern state of Terengganu sentenced Kamariah Ali, a 57-year-old former teacher, to two years in jail after she was found guilty of apostasy and refused to repent.
"What she did was not within the concept of freedom of religion," the news agency Bernama quoted judge Mohamad Abdullah as saying.
Kamariah, a widow with four children, was arrested in 2005 along with 57 other followers of the bizarre cult built around a giant teapot.

Worships a teapot ? Still saner and more rational than a Mohammadan any day of the week.

bizarre cult built around a giant teapot. Is that more bizarre than a cult built around a dead schizophrenic pederast?

Switching from Gaia to worshiping Obama is just as bad.
Goraphites will have their revenge soon enough.

In fact I have a healthy respect for bacteria.
Paris is another story.
Sadly, as I get older, I am more and more convinced that things are pretty much random. Or at least that the weasels who lie and cheat and beat and connive end up way better than people who simply and humbly try to find honest answers.
Whatever is going on, I seem to have no conception or influence.

Yup. It’s gonna really suck if it turns out it didn’t matter if we were supposed to lie, cheat, and steal to get what we wanted... (’cuz I woulda done a lot more of that). ;-)

And how can the article say Malaysia has respect for those other religions when you are not allowed to leave Islam?

This sounds like a case of the Kaaba calling the Kettle black.

The woman in Malaysia worshipping a giant teapot makes more sense than Imadamnnutjob in Iran worshipping a hole in the ground waiting for an imam to pop out.

Praise the giant Teapot,
Have no doubt;
Here is my candle,
I am devout.
When I hear my sentence,
Then I shout:
"The Pot will whistle
When I get out!"

I LOVE a good cup of hot tea, but I haven’t taken it that far just yet.
I must say the teapot worshipping is a big step up from Islam. I hope this catches on in the middle east.

Can’t say I worship it, but I pay my respects to the teapot every afternoon around 3. Sometimes I even adorn it’s tray with shortbread, small sandwiches and flowers.

Muslim Malaysia, whose state religion is Islam but which tolerates other major religions.
Now we’re to the place where “tolerate” must be defined specifically. May a Christian distribute Gospel literature on the street corners to Muslims in Malaysia.
No.
May a Christian meet a Muslim on the street and say, “If you have 15 minutes, I’d like to tell you my Christian testimony.” ??
He may try. And then he will see just how “tolerant” Malaysia is toward Christianity.
I suppose anyone is tolerated . . . IF he keeps his mouth shut.
