I find these things quite interesting. But, I must admit, not knowing much about archeology, seeing pictures like that I wonder if it just wasn’t a bed of sandstone or whatever where the diggers carved out what they imagined should be buried there. I’ve watched them as they dust away with a paintbrush, but I still wonder if it was just a pile of rock!

Cheap ass priests took the money for a real door to the other world and put in a false door.

Kinda like a funeral home selling the clean silk drawers your grandma brought for grandpa to wear for eternity. I mean, who’s gonna check, right?

False doors were used for the loved ones to lay food offerings and the like when they visited the dead relatives. Also they were intended to slow down the thieves. It didn’t work that well. ;’)
