John Broder and Elisabeth Bumiller teamed up for Thursday morning's "McCain and Obama Trade Jabs on Al Qaeda in Iraq." In a replay of a Times attack from yesterday, the paper criticized a conservative group's use of Barack Obama's middle name and tried to goad John McCain into another apology.
Meanwhile, Tennessee Republican officials defended a press release issued Monday that said Mr. Obama was anti-Israel and was supported by anti-Semites like Louis Farrakhan, founder of the Nation of Islam. The release uses Mr. Obamas middle name, Hussein, and includes the widely distributed photo of Mr. Obama in native Somali garb on a trip to Africa in 2006.
Mr. Obama, responding to a question at Tuesdays debate, rejected Mr. Farrakhans support and proclaimed his support for Israel.
Bill Hobbs, spokesman for the Tennessee Republican Party, said the party issued the release because Barack Obama has surrounded himself with people who do not have the best interests of Israel at heart. He said the party had gotten complaints from Democrats and some Republicans, but had not heard from the McCain campaign.
Mr. McCain said he could not control the activities of such groups until he was the nominee.
As TimesWatch demonstrated, columnists for the paper have used Barack Obama's full name on several occasions, making it hard for the paper to credibly attack conservative groups or opinion-makers for doing the same.
Baraq Husayn ibn Mahomet.
There.
Come and get me.
Too damned bad his first name isn’t “Saddam.”
Still waiting for call for John Stewart to apologize for his Oscar monologue. Till then Hussein is fair game.
All this Dem handwringing over Obama’s middle name tells me they are already getting nervous about the viability of Obama in the general election.
Barak “the H word” Obama.
McLame is a moron.
For real? Is this what "Obama" us and comes from? It's like Smith and Smythe?
Barack ‘I am not a Muslim’ Obama
I swore I wouldn’t mention his middle name is hussein..so, in keeping with my promise hussein won’t be mentioned..:)
In Arabic, “ibn Mahomet” means, “son of the Prophet”. All good Muslims are sons of the Prophet. It’s rather like a devout Christian calling themselves, “child of God”.
I use it to denote that baraq husayn may not be a PRACTICING Muslim, but according to Shari’a law, once a Muslim, you’re a son of the Prophet for life - which means that, if he’s not Christian, he is an APOSTATE - worse than an infidel.
Just think: Baraq Husayn would be the first US President to have a Fatwah issued upon him for apostasy.
***Hussein is a common name in some parts of the world....that Barrack Hussein Obama wants to be POTUS with such a well known name should bother no one......***
As my slightly racist brother-in-law in Memphis says, “I wouldn’t vote for anyone whose first name sounds like you are trying to cough up a lugie!”
no way is a fatwa issued..it’s perfectly ok to lie to the infidel..
whatever you do,don’t ever use the name Allan in my presence.
;-)
Why, yes, it most certainly is.
Which is why we’re getting all these denials of his true faith.
Also, should avoid perhaps “Obama” because sounds like:
“I’ll bomb ya” not PC. Also Barrack sounds too much like a military word, esp. when combined with the “bomb” last name also not PC. How far should we take this?
