In every case the predators initiated private conversations with the fake victim, initiated sex talk and initiated a meaning.

Doesn’t sound like entrapment to me.

>>DA Chuck Rosenthal was a rotten Republican.<<

Yep, he gets a "soak zone" warning.

>>I thought the undercover’s did initiate. Its even more legitimate if they never initiate. The one’s on AOL that I thought were undercover were definitely initiating.

No, absolutely they do not. Not the PJ contributors anyway.

You may not be aware of this, but virtually every predator on the series insists this is the first time they have ever approached a minor for sex. What are the odds that NBC just happens to only encounter people who are going to commit the crime for the first time.

Before you answer, consider the fact that several of the predators have shown up to more than one sting.

Arranging to have sex with a child is illegal. That’s because we are trying to get to the predator before they molest the child. And that is what these people are charged with.

I would say that I hope this plaintiff winds up owning NBC, but who would want that kind of liability?

folks this is more incompetent reporting on the law.

Motions to dismiss are routine. Denying them is VERY routine.

Also when a count is dismissed generally the party has 20 days to amend and refile. Again NOT A MAJOR ISSUE.

These people could have reported on the scheduling calendar with angst.

Sheila Jackson Lee and other Democrats are in Harris County/Houston which voted for Bush even though we’ve only had Democrat mayors.

Individual races can go differently. Hard to determine the makeup of a voting block based on a candidate.

I hadn’t voted for Chuck Rosenthal in years. He got hounded out of office in scandal. The Democrat challenger has also faced corruption scandal before but has name recognition, so maybe there will be a Republican DA (there are several in the running in the primary) and maybe there won’t.

Interesting - maybe those were real kids - all the better to have blown them off quickly

This is dark stuff and I think NBC made a mistake when it stirred this stuff up and filmed the result.

If NBC could they would televise live executions.

When entrapment becomes entertainment...something is wrong in society. I don’t have a problem in the media reporting arrests...but helping to create it....seems to go in a direction that wrecks society.

But the D.A. never showed up at the meeting place.

In fact, NBC persuaded the cops to show up at the DA’s house instead, and do the arrest there, since the DA didn’t act like the good predator they wanted him to be.

NBC crossed the line here.

They’re gonna get hammered.

"We think the evidence will ultimately show that 'Dateline' acted responsibly and lawfully," spokeswoman Jenny Tartikoff said

You may have what you consider evidence to support your position Jenny...but it is clear that NBC did not act responsibly.
"Lawfully" must be left to the court system.

I do not think it is a good idea for the media to be in the business of tempting people to commit crimes in order to enhance their ratings.

If they have reasonable suspicions they should notify the proper authorities just as any good citizen should. If the authorities fail to act then maybe there would a story in that fact. But for the media to work hand-in-glove with government is a recipe for the worst excesses of both.

I understand the point you are making, but even if a law were to be written that makes it illegal to make statements insulting homosexuals, I think there are gradations in the law (of course, there are). To equate what could happen hypothetically with what actually happened in this particular case is not a good analogy.

As for the shoe being on the other foot, I guess it’s pretty simple to say that if you aren’t in search of innocent children to pervert, sodomize, or molest, then you will not have to worry.

Why do people always want to use our ‘rights’ to protect such egregious behavior? Sorry, but I know you are trying to make a point, it’s just that there are legitimate people out their that we should be helping and this guy was not one of them.

I appreciate your guess that the man might have been pursuing underage male sexual partners for years. I suppose that might be so. NBC never suggested it, and no one else has come forward to complain about any previous incidents.

I’m going to guess that he was kind of like many of the rest of us. We just don’t have all that much opportunity to be bad. We don’t know any attractive, eager, underage partners. If we did, the weaker of us would be more at risk.

Wallet-on-the-street studies, and answer-sheet-on-the-desk studies have shown that lots of our moral strength disappears when skilled testers mess with the circumstances of temptation.

NBC conducted a study of this kind, except that their little experiment led to shame, exposure and one death. I don’t admire their work.

Actually, he didn’t have to show up - he’d already sent the undercover pornography, believing UC to be a 13 year old child. That’s a felony in Texas.

The *police* also knew by certain actions & statements online that Conradt was spooked and possibly destroying evidence.

The police Chief at that point decided to arrest Conradt at his home and had a warrant issued. NBC didn’t even know about the warrant until the Murphy Police TOLD them.

Oh yes, that Stranglehold the GOP has on Harris County!

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-gop/1735723/posts

So there is at least a 60% chance the perp was a Republican.

I am sure if you were to break down the Demographics of Rockwall County and look at 56 year old white males the percentage of those being Republican would be much higher than 60%.

The perps initiate the sex talk, not the police to prevent claims of entrapment.
