SARITA -- Federal authorities seized more than $3 million of marijuana hidden under a load of watermelons.
U.S. Border Patrol agents seized the drugs Saturday at a checkpoint on Highway 77 in Sarita. A drug-sniffing dog found the drugs during secondary inspection of a semi truck.
Border Patrol agents then pulled 179 bundles of marijuana from under a load of watermelons. The drugs weighed about 4,237 pounds with an estimated street value of $3,389,600.
Agents also arrested the 39-year-old man from Veracruz, Mexico, and they seized $1,383 from him.
The driver and the drugs remain in the custody of Immigration and Customs Enforcement pending further investigation.

But, but...what happened to the melons?
I’m offering a standing ovation for the U.S. Border Patrol!!
mrs
I’d say he’s found the melons, sure enough.
Tap that one on the left, though. Make sure it’s ripe.
The drug war is a sinking ship that we’re bailing out with a teacup. Waste.
What happened to the melons? Simple. The marijuana and the watermelons were going to the Green Party convention (The Green Party being green on the outside, red on the inside).
The drugs - for fun and games. Can you imagine Cynthia McKinney stoned? Oh, sorry. That is her natural state.
