What I am really worried about is because of skyrocketing social spending we will not be able to fund a military of sufficient size--equipment etc etc capable of protecting this country

And Bush and the GOP spent $$$ like liberals

I am with you. I do not love McCain, but I hate the socialist Obama and Hillary. Therefore, I will hold my nose and vote for McCain. At least I am confident that he will not stab our military in the back.

I’m not sure there are many options.

We vote for a third party... lemme see. Ron Paul or the Pinto Idiot.

We vote for Obama (since he will get the nod I think at this point... though, there’s still those Super Delegates...)

We vote for John McCain...

Sigh....

If either Hillary or Obama is elected , my nephew will finish his four years with the Navy and exit as fast as he can.

Then your nephew should indeed get out as fast as he can. His loyalty is, or should be, to the United States. He gave an oath to defend the Constitution and to obey the lawful orders of those above him, which would include Obama if he is elected. Your nephew didn't sign on to serve any individual or any political party. If he can't keep that straight then it's time for him to find another career.

A lot of us retired Senior NCO’s also feel that way. We also dread what Hillary will do to the military if she should get elected.

I hope ALL conservatives and Republicans remember what Bill Clinton did to gut our military..

The USA Constitution gives the power to "raise and support armies and to provide and maintain a navy " to the congress

Tell me what party controlled both houses of congress from 94 to 2000

The young military I know can’t stand Obama! Hopefully, your experience is a local event and mine is a trend.

The opinion of retired military officers aside, my concern is that the election of either HIllary or Obama, who are both anti-military Far Left Radicals, could result in a massive wave of resignations of our current serving military officers.

A Hillary or Obama presidency might begin with the loss of the bulk of our officer class.

If you were a captain, a major, a colonel (or their navy equivalents), would YOU want to continue a military career under Hilbama? Why bother knowing that you would be facing massive spending cuts, cuts of new weapons, new ships, new everything? Why stay in knowing these idiots will subject you to more Mogadishus?

I know I wouldn't.

And that does not even consider Hilbama's plan to undo all our efforts in Iraq, and turn our victory into another Vietnam style defeat there. Who would want to stay in the service just to get slapped in the face with that?

I believe that is what she said he would do

What is your problem

At least we have a volunteer army rather than draftees who would have no choice

You have a point — most presidents, even those who’ve served in the military, don’t have a level of experience that would translate to the type of decision-making faced by a commander-in-chief. The only modern president I can think of whose military experience really prepared him to be CIC was Dwight Eisenhower, particularly his role as supreme allied commander of the allied expeditionary force during World War II, military governer after the end of the war and supreme commander of NATO.

Of course, Senator Obama has pretty much zero foreign policy experience aside from photo ops, so he’s nowhere near the level of John McCain. I can understand why military commanders are concerned, even though a president-elect who really understands the CIC role is relatively rare.

Indeed. He also didn't sign on to commit suicide.

It’s not just Obama who doesn’t understand the Islamic threat. 99% of the world fails to understand it.

One of my considerations is writing in Fred Thompson. Although a wasted vote....I still voted.. Other things I consider is voting for the Dem to watch then fail and be criticized, if elected...or McCain (not a choice I want to make at this juncture).....

You know that we are jus tinthe Primary season, right?

Did you bother to read my entire post?

I clearly stated that my state's primary has already occurred. I voted, my guy didn't win. In fact, my guy dropped out a few days before Super Duper Tuesday.

In light of that, from my vantage point, the election of the next POTUS is out of my hands, IOW, I, and the other voters here in Tennessee have no further say in the matter, except for those Tennesseans who are delegates choosen by the Legislature. See Article II, Section I of the Constitution of the United States for details.

Not that I'd want him to win, but given that the Huckster has not a prayer of securing enough delegates to win the nomination, it's now up to the delegates in the Electoral College to select the next POTUS. The same is true for you if your state has already held their primary. If your state has already held it's primary, your job is done in regard to electing a President. All this hooey about citizens voting for this guy or that guy come November in regard to who is going to be the next President is meaningless, but the media, the pundits and the politico's keep up the charade just the same. Got it?
