“I don’t care about Hezbollah as a political organization. I don’t know much about their politics.”

So basically he just supports their killing of Jews. Nice.

At the Fox link there's a video link to the entire interview. I urge all to check it out.

He's a strange guy, and argues forcefully, mostly logically, but sometimes not.

Per your quote above, what he means (as is clearer in the video) is that he isn't backing Hezbollah politically, but he is recognizing and honoring their "right" to act in self-defense against the Israelis invading Lebanon.

Of course, Finkelstein fails to mention (and the interviewer doesn't bring it up either) that Hezbollah instigated the invasion by sending rockets and missiles into Israel. THAT'S the big logical fallacy in Finkelstein's argument.

Finkelstein dismisses that by saying, in effect, that the Israelis were waiting for any pretext, and had prepared for war. (As if that in itself condemned the Israelis to be seen to have caused the war).

He also makes the basic mistake in his argument of reaching to Hitler and the Nazis for analogies. That's never convincing, always ugly and over-the-top, in just about any argument -- especially here, where he implicitly compares the Nazis to the Israelis.
