It ain’t a great game but it is the best game in town. I’ve got both Comcast TV and internet and will likely get cable phone service when it arrives in my area.
One thing I would like from Comcast is the ability to pick and pay for the channels I want. I don’t need 4 home shopping channels nor do I need the golf or outdoor channels. I could stand to dump the learning channel too since they’ve become the home remodeling channel.
This is a common misconception about cable. You would not save money by eliminating these channels. Your bill would actually go up. The cable company is paid by the low volume channels to carry them. This helps to lower the cost of the must carry channels. That is why the basic service is loaded up with these channels. More households, more money to the cable company. Hi demand channels like ESPN charge the cable company, so they are in a higher price tier.
They fought this tooth and nail two years ago when somebody in Congress proposed it. The excuse was that it would be too hard to implement, but the open secret is that practically everybody would eliminate two-thirds of their channels.
And breaking out the pricing for sports channels would lay bare how much of the typical cable bill goes directly to overpriced athletes. Nobody in the TV industry wants you to know how much you could save by cancelling ESPN.
