BURLINGTON, Vt. - The founders of Ben & Jerry's endorsed Barack Obama on Monday, and lent his Vermont campaign two "ObamaMobiles" that will tour the state and give away scoops of "Cherries for Change" ice cream. "If there was ever a need for real change, and if there ever was a candidate to inspire us and make that happen, it's now," said Ben Cohen.

Either the duo are paying for the autos and ice cream personally, or the company is. In the former case, I suspect the duo are already maxed out on their legal campaign contributions, so the auto and ice cream giveaway would be an illegal in-kind contribution. Ben & Jerry's was sold to a large multinational corporation, Unilever, in 2001.

However, Unilever made the corporate decision to allow its acquisition to retain "its distinctive identity, its social consciousness, its iconoclastic ways and its eccentric ambience" (Unilever's words).

Translated:.......its subsidiary, Ben and Jerry's, will remain a business promoting leftism and socialism while reaping the rewards of capitalism ( rewards picked from the pockets of uneducated suckers who purchase B & J's ice cream).
