It is normal for our sun to have quiet periods between solar cycles, but we’ve seen months and months of next to nothing, and the start of Solar cycle 24 seems to have materialized (as first reported here) then abruptly disappeared.
Given the current quietness of the sun and it’s magnetic field, combined with the late start to cycle 24 with even possibly a false start, it appears that the sun has slowed it’s internal dynamo to a similar level such as was seen during the Dalton Minimum. One of the things about the Dalton Minimum was that it started with a skipped solar cycle, which also coincided with a very long solar cycle 4 from 1784-1799. The longer our current cycle 23 lasts before we see a true ramp up of cycle 24, the greater chance it seems then that cycle 24 will be a low one.
No wonder there is so much talk recently about global cooling. I certainly hope that’s wrong, because a Dalton type solar minimum would be very bad for our world economy and agriculture. NASA GISS published a release back in 2003 that agrees with the commonly accepted idea that long period trends in solar activity do affect our climate by changing the Total Solar Irradiance (TSI).

This is in no way related but this morning I found, on my kitchen table, a gray, glass vessel shaped like a honey pot. On it were the words; "So long, and thanks for all the blossoms!"
Only deniers believe that the Sun has anything to do with earth temperatures.
Well, that isn’t exactly what I said. I said the wild ones aren’t being wiped out. The domesticated ones are. It is still a significant percentage of bees being wiped out. The key thing to focus on is that the ones man messed around with and ‘made better’ are the ones that are dying off. That is the definition of ironic. Man knows best, right?
I’m pushing the term “Gore-Hansen Minimum” if it comes to that.
-but seriously? The liberal/enivro-wackos will probably be wishing for some sunspots, else they are going to feel very, very foolish for falling for this scam.
Actually they will probably just tell us how their hard work has stopped the globe from burning up.

well, I would call that unintended consequences. It is too bad they are dying but at least the wild ones are okay so that is a big relief to me.
I’m sure that all of the man-made CO2 has starved the Sun of the oxygen necessary to produce sun spots!........./sarc

If this does turn out to be another low sunspot period, thus causing global cooling, it should be called the "Algore Minimum".
