I tend to agree. I do not buy an inevitable democrat landslide. Nor will I accept such a notion out of hand.

The fact is, we as conservatives are not getting what we hoped for or wanted in a candidate in this election. Most of that fault lies with us and with those we elected to go and do our business. Us for not holding their feet to the fire, and then not getting behind any single candidate for President to help do something about it (as in lead), and many of the GOP candidates elected earlier who got to DC and then made “nice” with the opposition and did not do the work we sent them there to do.

Be that as it may, things are what they are right now and we are left to make the most of it.

I do not believe or buy into any notion of capitulation or thowing my toys down and “going home” as a plan or policy for addressing it. Even with the candidate we have, there is simply too much at stake.

In particular, we can still hold ground in all of the following areas:

1) Abortion. McCain has a good record on supporting the life of any fetus in the womb. We owe it to those millions of innocenets to not throw in the towel here and add those lives to the other areas we will lose ground in.

2) The Supreme Court. McCain is much more likely to appoint judges onto the court who will make decisions based on the original intent of the founders than anything Hillary or Obama will appoint. In the abortion area this is critical because we are on the verge of being able to have the SCOTUS overturn Roe v Wade. This has taken 35 years to occur. I am not willing to sacrifice those 35 years and have to wait another 35 to get back where we are today.

3) The War against Islamic Jihad. McCane will stay on the offensive in this war. He may not do it exactly according to our liking (neither did Bush), but he will take the fight tenatiously to the enemy...something we definitely will not get from Obama or Hillary. Hundreds of thousands, maybe millions of American lives could depend on this. And the spirit and honor of those who have already sacrificed their lives in this regard compell us.

4) Tax cuts. I believe McCain will keep his pledge to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. He has stated that directly (as opposed to the continued wishy washy language IMHO and action on border issues). This will be critical for us economically and we know exactly that Obama or Hillary will do the opposite.

So, despite the areas where we will lose ground with McCain (and immigration, the border, and global climate are chief amongst those), there are other equally critical areas IMHO where we can still hold high ground. And from that high ground I believe we can mount a counter offensive on the other issues (particularly immigration and global climate) where we differ with McCain. We have shown we can do that already and must continue to fight him directly, remaining in his and the liberals face, while holding the other critical ground.

I am unwilling to cede ALL the ground. Capitulating, staying home, or voting for one of the other cretans will do that and it is something I simply cannot subscribne to.

Do you know where Leavenworth, KS is located on a US map? McCain’s plan to bring the GITMO terrorists to Leavenworth, KS while having an OPEN BORDERS policy is not what I call national security minded. I do NOT want this fight in my back yard.

I will never vote for John McCain.

I will vote for Conservative candidates down the ballot, but I will not reward McCain for his 20 years of treachery.

Never.

Terrorist rights. We cant interogate them and he wants to bring them to US and give them ACLU trials. And first amendment rights, how can he pick conservative judges to overturn McC-Finegold??

This is the first time in history (except BoB Dole) that liberal MSM is directing us to march to the republican party tune, only because they picked McCain. But if Obama gets it McCains’ liberal buddies will eat him alive, and we will be Maverics like him and wave at him going down.

1) Abortion. McCain has a good record on supporting the life of any fetus in the womb.

McCain got the endorsement of a pro-baby-killing group "Republicans for Choice" (sic).

2) The Supreme Court.

Three words for you... Gang of 14. McCain sold Bush's strict constructionist judicial nominees up the river when it suited him politically.

The War against Islamic Jihad.

McCain wants to close Club Gitmo and grant terrorists civil rights. He is also against the effective aggressive interrogation techniques that have saved countless American lives.

Personally, I believe that McCain is such an attention whore that he would entertain the idea of surrendering in Iraq if the leftist media pushed the issue. He wants so badly to be "their hero" that he has consistently sold conservatives up the river to achieve that "maverick" label he so covets. What is to say he won't further compromise to win more popularity?

4) Tax cuts.

McCain opposed both of Bush's tax cut packages in 2001 and 2003.

At least Obama is honest about being a pro-surrender socialist.

Whew! I was breezing through the typically ignorant and just glossed over yours until I saw the name. Backup for a reread. Second time I saw where you were, spot on. It seems to be a lesson that many conservatives and Republicans refuse to learn, divided we fall and fail.

There is one thing to be learned from the liberal and democrat side of the isle, they stick together. Rarely any talk about holding your nose, or the lesser of two evils. Leave it to the overly proud and in their mind, principled, who seem to prefer to lay down rather than fight.

The fight is a constant, it never ends, before during and after elections the fight is endless as long as there are folks out there whose minds are not right and are willing to attempt to change the nature of the Republic. I would much rather fight from the high ground than as the party out of power with no control over any branch of government.

It wasn’t so long ago that Ross Perot was able to take 20 percent or so of voters, and the painful result was eight years of WJC, surely our memories are not that short.

I concur.

We may not like the choice for POTUS, but there should be plenty of Conservatives down the ballot for us to balance what’s going on with the Presidential Farce, I mean, Race.

Why not focus on voting for Conservatives down-ballot? What if we could set conventional wisdom on its collective @$$ by swinging the control of the House or Senate back to the GOP?

The Conservatives we elect would then be able to stymie the socialistic tendencies of whoever is in the Oval Orafice.

This could set the stage for a Conservative to arise from that fight and get the Movement back on track.

We’ll never know if we stay home.....................

Disagree strongly. "Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?" Amnesty will destroy this country as we know it. Once done, it cannot be undone. Why should I or anyone else be complicit in the destruction of the country by voting for McCain who holds the same position on this issue as Hillary and Obama? Amnesty is the Mother of all issues. It will not only destroy the country as we know it, but it will make the GOP the permanent minority party for those of you who place partisan politics over the survival of the country.

...The proposed conservative boycott of the GOP in 2008 also demonstrates a massive misunderstanding of the GOP's role. The GOP isn't constructed to nominate conservative candidates. It is constructed to win. It's the conservative base's responsibility to nominate conservative candidates. In 2008, the conservative base failed...

John McCain was not the choice of the conservative base, but the conservative base had two good choices, Duncan and Fred.

It seems conservatives came out in insufficient numbers, or, what's worse, perhaps they DID come out, and the results are a reflection of the actual percentage of numbers among the voters in general.

Either way, crying like a five year old girl in pigtails and running to mom does not work in hardball politics. The other side will do whatever it takes -I mean WHATEVER it takes- to get into the White House.

Hell, I question the sincerity and political leanings of some posters here who claim JM is "worse" than HRC or BO.

I have disagreements with JM, especially the 2A, my primary political choosing device. However, putting either hillary or obama into the white house out of spite because the majority of republicans do not agree with a conservative's personal choice, for whatever reason, is not strategic thinking, nor is it forethought, nor a well crafted political ploy to ensure the takeover in 8 years with a true conservative.

It is merely, baseless, profoundly stupid, non clear headed political stunt, whose only purpose serves to do what the democratic machine could not do by itself.

Might as well put on a tuxedo.."If I'm going to BE impotent, I might as well LOOK impotent.."support John McCain's However, the people who voted (yes, fellow Americans who do not like liberals) seemed only minimally interested in Fred and Duncan. So, neither got off the ground.
