More than one Beltway pundit has pegged Rob Portman as a potential vice presidential pick for Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). Its not hard to see why: Portman, 52, is relatively young, has served in the House and in both Bush administrations and hails from Ohio, the mother of all swing states.
Portman deflected questions about his name being floated as a potential running mate for McCain. He didnt take himself out of contention, but instead shifted the conversation to talk about his interest in running for Ohio governor or a U.S. Senate seat.

Rob Portman is a Republican so there is not much chance of him getting the VP nod.

>Portman praises McCain,
My first thought was that Darth Vader’s wife had just returned from the dead to endorse McCain.

(I will vote for McCain if he resigns his Senate seat before this election.)

IMHO, Rob Portman would be a good choice.

How does he spell “potato”?
To: Red_Devil 232
Me neither and I consider myself pretty familiar with lots of the better known Pols and I’ve never heard of this guy. That’s not to say there’s anything wrong with him, he may well be terrific but if we folks who follow this stuff everyday have never heard of him I can’t imagine the man on the street would fair to well in recognizing him. McCain is going to need all the help he can get so, to the extent that he can attract one, he’d better name a real superstar in the conservative ranks to join his ticket. And that does not mean Chucklebe. Maybe Jim Demint.

Rob Portnam is a former Congressman from Cincinnati, also worked as Budget Director and Trade Representative. Good conservative record, popular in his home town. He’d be a good choice for any nominee.

Heard on Fox that exit polls show people were voting against McCain because of his immagration stance and McCain-Finegold.
