Clinton Campaign Not Looking for Shuster to Be Fired, After All
ABC News ^ | February 09, 2008 9:07 PM | Jake Tapper

After some conversations with folks at the Clinton campaign, I can offer some clarity -- maybe -- on what they're asking NBC/MSNBC to do.

And despite Clinton's letter, saying David Martin Shuster's apology and suspension was not sufficient, Clinton's goal is not for NBC to fire Shuster, he and his fans will be happy to hear. Until Thursday, the Clinton campaign had no issues with Shuster, I'm told.

The campaign says it has more to do with what it sees as a sexist, locker room, on-air atmosphere at MSNBC.

Clinton supporters ask: what other network has had, within the space of one year, because of comments widely seen as boorish and inappropriate, a firing (Imus), an on-air apology (Chris Matthews) and a suspension (Shuster)?

Clinton, who has been on the receiving end in two of those incidents, is taking a stand for MSNBC to clean up its act. Or, so Camp Clinton says.

Of course, others might think she is capitalizing on an ugly moment to galvanize female voters.

What say you?

After the humiliation that Bill put his daughter through, why would a few words from a stupid reporter bother her?

I think
-MSNBC is gunning for Obama
-Obama does best with fewer debates
-ticking off Hillary will result in her refusal to go to them for debates

I can’t believe Hillary dose anything that isn’t calculated. My guess is she’s keeping NBC in line and giving them a fair waring to stay in line.

This coming from a campaign that involves Bill Clinton? Andy THEY are whining about "sexist, locker room, on-air atmosphere"? Oh, brother!

They can’t appear to look to much like hitler at least until after she wins the presidency.

Me either. If she was blindsided with this, she'd be hopping up and down screeching for him to be fired. IMHO, the whole thing is staged.

ORONO, MAINE — Hillary Rodham Clinton on Saturday morning ripped MSNBC over reporter David Shuster’s suggestion that Chelsea Clinton was “sort of being pimped out” by the campaign.

“I found the remarks incredibly offensive,” Clinton told reporters in this snowy town outside Bangor. Earlier, she sent a letter to NBC brass that called for swift action against Shuster, who was suspended Friday by MSNBC.

“Nothing justifies the kind of debasing language that David Shuster used and no temporary suspension or half-hearted apology is sufficient,” Clinton wrote to NBC News President Steve Capus, who apparently had already called Clinton to personally apologize.

“I would urge you to look at the pattern of behavior on your network that seems to repeatedly lead to this sort of degrading language,” Clinton wrote. “There’s a lot at stake for our country in this election. Surely, you can do your jobs as journalists and commentators and still keep the discourse civil and appropriate.”

NBC did not immediately respond to an e-mailed request for comment.

The letter and harsh rebuke followed similar comments made by her top advisers and came a day after Shuster issued an on-air apology and was suspended.

The hubbub started Thursday, when Shuster guest-hosted Tucker Carlson’s MSNBC show, “Tucker.” In a discussion about Chelsea Clinton’s role in calling superdelegates on behalf of her mother’s presidential campaign, he asked whether she was “sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way.”

No way. Next you're going to tell me that the hostage crisis she coolly and professionally managed was also staged.

Hillary’s murderers, personal IRS agents, personal FBI agents,
will handle who they want eliminated. The “NOT LOOKING”
is just an attempt to separate the Clintons from what they
have now hatched.

I am so tired of the “Chelsea is sacred” largesse that she has benefited from for yrs. The Bush twins have not received the same treatment from the press, in fact, they have had to endure the hyena-like MSM every time that one of them does something.

Chelsea isn’t a little girl anymore. She is a 26 yr. old woman who is working the campaign trail just as hard as her sorry mother and father. In all this hoopla about “sacred Chelsea”, it is forgotten that what Schuster said is very much the truth.

Absolutely. Every step of this has been done through surrogates -- from the emails that Pierre guy sent to Shuster to the whispering campaign the Clinton flaks have been waging through reporters like Tapper. I bet those emails were drawn up as carefully by her crew as one of her big speeches.

I agree. In fact, she'll be 28 years old this month.

Why fire him now that they’ve got him right where they want him?

"I can’t believe Hillary dose anything that isn’t calculated. My guess is she’s keeping NBC in line and giving them a fair waring to stay in line."

That almost sounds too trite. I've found with the Clintons, it's normally the safest bet to go with the most outrageous, complex conspiracy theory that involves copious amounts of money, oral sex or death under unusual circumstances. I don't see where your theory includes any of these elements.
