Yup, these are largely self-identified Catholics who haven't been to Mass since they were 12. "Cultural Catholics" or "C&E" (not Church of England; Christmas and Easter)

If you look at actually practicing Catholics who attend Mass at least 4x a month, it's quite a different story.

Don’t put that on us; my oldest friend is at Mass every Sunday and takes Communion. He is an Obama supporter and has never voted for anyone without a D next to the name.
Not surprisingly, he’s a former member of the Newspaper Guild, and his father is retired Federal government.
