America - many Americans of "English" ancestry - especially those with Norman blood that came with William the Conqueror...from Normandy -
The "Normans" were "Norsemen" - going back to Wm The Conqueror's ancestor, Rollo the Great, Norse King who first went to France...With Wm. the Conqueror, went thousands of Normans to England, to be given lands and castles in return for their service - some 600 years of descendants later, the Englishmen started coming to the shores of America -
Any genealogist could have saved a lot of grant money - particularly in this study where they simply researched the DNA of DIRECT descendants still living in the lands of their ancestors.
Where did they THINK it would lead? To oriental ancestors? duh
I've got to come up with some cockamamie "study" and plug in on all this grant money floating around. Hmmm - Maybe I can get a couple hundred thousand to study the phenomena of wounded animals that have come from the forest to me in search of help?
No, that sounds to valid. Maybe "Why did the moose come into my yard at high noon and walk up and sniff the hummingbird feeder - did he think it was a big red apple?
Yeah, that aught to do.
You’d have a better chance for a grant if you went in search of DNA of the Black Irish or the Picts. Apparently no-one else can find it: Sykes or Oppenheimer.
