"We all know McCain cannot win."

No we don't. If Hillary gets the nomination, Bloomberg gets in and very angry Black voters decide they got screwed out of Obama, and add Green party nominee Cynthia McKinney to the mix, McCain could win a plurality. Polling data has indicated for some time that McCain does exceptionally well even in a 2-man race. Question is, will it be remotely worth it ? I say only if he picks an ACTUAL Conservative (not phony liberal scum like Romney or Huckster) like Fred or SC Gov. Mark Sanford, and then he dies early on in his term could we still salvage something from this sideshow.

pawlenty would be crazy to turn down the VP nod with McCain — he keeps his job if the ticket loses and he is positioned to be presidential timber in 2012. This happens all the time with losing VP candidates.

These two dolts should be shot for being so stupid.

No President can pick a VP from his own state.

All very well said and a very powerful case against what is happening here. That said, the mentioned facts of the ‘Foul mood’ of the Electorate, the far superior organization of the Dems and the complete incompetence and vulnerability of the Rep putative nominee all make it certain the next Pres will be Dem.

BTW, have the skyrocketing numbers of Dems in the Primaries been factored in. They are energized and this is yet another nail in the coffin.

I felt Romney might have a very slight chance of meeting these challenges but I am very certain McCain will produce a the Rep equivalent of Mondale or McGovern.

Yeah, it was a very slim hope but it was the only hope we had left. It was the equivilent of a Hail Mary play. We are so screwed now.

That’ll NEVER happen. She-who-must-not-be-named wouldn’t want anyone more charismatic than her in the Veep slot. It’s going to be Richardson.

How about a more moderate Democrat from the south, such as Senator Webb of Virginia? Remember he beat George Allen in that macaca election. He might help Hillary in the south, maybe.

Yeah and maybe space aliens will come down and kidnap both Obama and Hillary. "What if" yourself into fantasy land all you want, that doesn't change the facts.

Polling data 9 months ago was telling you the ONLY person who could beat Hillary was Rudy G.

Where is he now?

That where you and GOP will be in Nov. Utterly absurd to be looking at polling data 9 months from an election to determine who to run as a candidate.

McCain got no base outside the US News media. No base and he is not going to strip “moderates” or “Independents” from the Dems. It pure wishful thinking on the GOP’s Establishment’s part.

Look at the approval numbers. Whole country is completely pissed at the Political class. Guess who they think is the party in power? The GOP. You are not going to be able to use a 25 year member of the DC old boy’s club as your candidate and tap into that anti DC mood.

In addition to being an anti-Israel disaster as Bush’s Sec of State, Rice is pro-choice.

Yeah, she’d pull lots of conservative votes for McCain. Sure she would.

Just because she can make a mean and scary face doesn’t make her a good candidate for VP or President, not by a long stretch.

What losing VP canidate has ever come back to head the Republican Ticket? Who was Goldwater’s VP pick? Cause that the level of slaughter we are looking at this year. Think anyone who is associated with losing to that sort of butt kicking is going to be politically viable ever again?

Webb’s no moderate. He’s a creepy psychotic, racist, anti-semite, and pedophiliac “author.”

Congressman William Miller was Goldwater’s running mate. I think he was from upstate New York? Yep, he never had any future in national politics after the ‘64 election.

The space alien part was you guys shoving a sleazebag con-man Massachusetts liberal as a remotely viable alternative to the rodents when he did more to help them and their liberal cause than any of the other candidates running (and stood to lose by a wide margin). I still stand on what I said, and 9 months from now, a lot of people that are sick about McCain are going to find him looking a lot better than the alternative. As for polling data from months ago, I don’t recall seeing any showing Rudy winning this phantom victory over Hillary (and I never believed for 5 seconds he had a remote shot at the nomination — completely pushed by the media and the establishment). I have seen it for McCain.

Is the Hispanic vote breaking towards Hillary or Obama. Either way, an Obillary ticket will pull 70 to 75 percent of the Hispanic vote, so the incentive won’t be to go after them. I think these two have to stay together. Obama is drawing large numbers of young people that Hillary needs. Likewise, Hillary has Democrats that could easily go to the other Democrat, McCain. A McHuck ticket will crumble up like week old horse crap, even if it does draw a few wobbly Hispanic voters.

But California seems pretty safe for Dems. already, as far as picking Tony V. as a running mate. Can she pick a Veep who will help carry their state? Obama can’t. Evan Bayh of Indiana just might.

John Kerry had thought Edwards could help him in N.C. and the south last time, but didn’t work out. So Edwards would seem to be out for Hill’s veep also.

We don’t know what’s going to happen in 9 months. We don’t even know if Hillary will be the definitive nominee for the rodents. If Obama beats her, I still think he will have a substantial problem in the general. A huge number of White Democrats won’t vote for him.
