More election clerks are heading to Benson to help relieve long lines and wait times at the polls.
Callers to the News 4 Newsroom have complained of two to three hour waits. Elections Officer Tom Shelling tells News 4, two more clerks have been added to the staff there, with two more on the way. That's a grand total of ten clerks.
New voting regulations require polling places to have at least 2,000 registered voters each under their jurisdiction, says Shelling. That means many smaller polling places had to consolidate, and Shelling says they weren't quite ready for the rush.
"The turnout has been phenomenal," says Shelling.
Shelling also lays some of the delay blame on confused independent voters who aren't registered with a party. Please remember, if you are not registered with a specific political party, your vote will not count in this presidential preference election.
I didn’t know Benson had more than 2000 people.
The dang town has a total population of less then 5,000. How long can the ait be to vote?
Beautiful Benson, gateway to Wilcox.
Maybe it’s the Mexican citizens coming over to vote.
What language are they speaking while on line?
If people don't get the candidate they want elected in November, are we going to have a repeat of what's going on in Kenya? Another Florida hanging chads fiasco?
Thoughts?
Ever been to Sunsites?
No but I spent a week in Wilcox one day.
Could be another 2000 “Floor-I-DUH” election.
I heard on the radio of similar delays in the Camp Verde area. A lady called in to say she’d waited about 2 hours or so. (Camp Verde is about halfway between Phoenix and Flagstaff, which is in northern Arizona.)
Cross state multi-voting? Becayse Obama’s so loveable?
We’re turning into a third world country. Right now.
