Calif. voter registration swells for early presidential primary
AP on Bakersfield Californian ^ | 2/1/08 | Allison Hoffman - ap

Posted on 02/01/2008 3:12:46 PM PST by NormsRevenge

Voter registration for Tuesday's election is about 700,000 higher than during the last California presidential primary four years ago.

In December, statewide registration already had set a record for a presidential primary. The current registration is 15.7 million voters, compared to just more than 15 million for the 2004 primary.

The secretary of state's office released the figures on Friday.

The registration jump comes after California's presidential primary this year was changed from June to February. The move gives California - for the first time in years - a stake in deciding nominees for the two major political parties.

Secretary of State Debra Bowen says more than 240,000 people had registered to vote since December.

About 43 percent of California voters are registered as Democrats, who added 150,000 voters. The Republican Party added 40,000 voters and accounts for 33 percent of the electorate.

Those who decline to state a party affiliation are 19.4 percent of all voters, up from 16.4 percent in 2004.

The most voters ever registered for a California election was 16.5 million in November 2004.

It looks like turnout is going to be low. If they can only get 700,000 illegals to register out of 5,000,000 (?) that isn’t very good. A few thousand of those extra 700,000 may even be US citizens.

Just imagine all the ILLEGALS that are registering as Democrats look the other way.

Do they have to declare party affiliation when they register?

The move gives California - for the first time in years - a stake in deciding nominees for the two major political parties.

Nope! With the help of conservatives, the GOP nominee has pretty much been appointed.

You bet I said HELP!

Conservatives told the three conservative candidates to take a flying leap by sending no money and no help in favor of the lesser evils.

now they're stuck with the evil lessers and they're whining about the crappy choices they had.

We had three perfectly acceptable candiates and now we have none.

What's to figure out??

Do they have to declare party affiliation when they register?

No, ya got a bunch of choices

http://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/guidetovr_1006.pdf

There are currently seven qualified political parties in California:

• American Independent Party
• Democratic Party
• Green Party
• Libertarian Party
• Natural Law Party
• Peace and Freedom Party
• Republican Party

Information regarding these parties may be obtained by calling or writing the chairperson for each party. For political party information, please refer to the Secretary of State web site at

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_parties.htm.

Appendix “B” contains a list of party chairpersons. There are also party statements in the state Voter Information Guide/Ballot Pamphlet mailed to every household with a registered voter and available on the Secretary of State’s web site at:

http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_i.htm.

A voter may choose not to affiliate with any political party by marking the “decline to state” box on the form. Decline to state is the box to mark if the voter wants to receive non-partisan or “independent” primary election ballots. Decline to state voters may be able to vote for a candidate of a specific party in a primary election.

Decline to state voters may request, from their county elections official or at their polling place, the ballot of a political party if authorized by the party’s rules and duly noticed to the Secretary of State.

For a listing of participating political parties, please
refer to the Secretary of State’s web site at
http://www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_decline.htm or call 1-800-345-VOTE.

If thedecline to state voter does not request such a ballot, the voter will be given a nonpartisan ballot, containing only the names of all candidates for nonpartisan
offices and measures to be voted upon at the primary election.

OK, I understand. The one Conservative I felt stood a chance, Thompson, didn’t present very well. (I know, the MSM certainly tried to paint him as uninspired - and succeeded).

I just feel he could/should have been able to pull it off. Whose fault is that.

Not without money he couldn't. His team told us and every conservative in the country knew, that he needed $5 mil to get things of the ground. They sent 3.5 mil.

I live in Iowa and it was my honor to vote for Fred but would have voted for him, Hunter or Tancredo.

You should have seen things on TV here at suppertime a month before the election:

Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Mitt, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Mitt, Hillary, Obama, Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Hillary, Obama, Huck and on and on.

Fred was reduced to travelling the state by bus and he hit 58 Iowa cities in 30 days, but I didn't see ONE commercial from him, Duncan or Tom T.

Without conservative support, conservatives can't win.

Instead of going for a candidate with a %99 conservative outlook and %5 liberal, conservatives now have a choice between candidates who have a %99 liberal outlook and a %5 conservative outlook.

And conservatives are whining about it.

I'm tired of the whining.

Well, we both agree. This election IS going to be a disaster and I do not see how that can change short of something coming out about the Dem candidate - Oh wait, Hillary Never Mind.

Taking his patently anti-Conservative credentials off of the table, this creaky, anachronistic, slow on his feet son of the Senate will be eaten up by either of the Dems. It will be painful to watch any debate won’t it. Worse than Dole but the same image/approach.

These 'Polls' showing McCain with a lead over either of the Dems are pure BS. They are a concoction of the MSM and Dems IMO.

In short, I share your frustration but would even settle for Romney. Instead McCain gets it and, truth be told, this to me presents very little choice in the General.

Yah. It's going to be a disaster all right. I'm thinking I just need to put this election away and stop watching it altogether. Don't have the heart to see a liberal take over again and that's all that's running now.

With Romney's health insurance plan I'm not sure that he's all that conservative either.

The only reason that Huck is still in is to get as many delegates as possible to transfer to McCain when he takes the VP slot.

So it's gonna be a Hillary/Obama vs McCain/Huck. What a terrible choice!!

I don’t believe the polls showing McCain can beat either Hillary or Obama, either.. Way too soon for that.
At this point, if it comes down to Mccain or hillary, there won’t be much difference between those two, except for the obvious ones. She’s a woman, he’s an, well, he’s old and he sounded it on Wednesday.

Here is the statistics:

US citizens (20%)
Dead people (10%)
Illegals (40%)
Illegal double-voters (30%)

So, McCain should be fine. I expect him to carry dead people, illegals and illegal double-voters. Romney is lucky to carry US citizens.

Actaully, that’s what I’ve decided - To let it go and, when crap comes on the TV about it, switch channels. The BIG problem for me, aside from the damage that’s certain to be done from a third Clinton Presidency, is the four years (At least) that I’ll have to keep switching channels to avoid her. She and her husband have nothing to say that I want to hear and I despise them for BOTH their personal and political values.

They are both certifiable Sociopaths to the point of being dangerous, just ask many who have been involved with them over the years. If you are interested, look at my 'About' page here. The markers described there fit both of them to a T. Particularly him, with his drunk father, abusive stepfather, low socio-economic circumstances, etc.

BTW, I am really disgusted with W as well. His father's dithering and failure to govern conservatively gave us the first Clinton. He has gone even further off the ranch with the predictable result that we're set up to have to endure the other Clinton.

I'll never forgive either Bush for this!

All the best.
