One point was raised about McCain after the debate by Bill Bennett was why would McCain appoint Justices like Alito and Roberts when they would likely overturn his crowning achievement McCain/Feingold?

The best things about McCain are that he will probably be a one termer, his Justices will be moderates instead of liberals and he will destroy the Hillary/Bill political force in America. He gives John Edwards voters a place to go and a number of male Democrats.
