More Mush From the Huck
Powerline ^ | Jan. 27, 2008 | John Hindraker

This morning on Fox News Sunday, Mike Huckabee sucked up to John McCain while bashing Mitt Romney. Asked to comment on the dispute between McCain and Romney as to whether Romney had called for a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq, Huckabee sided squarely with McCain:

“Dishonest? I’ve never seen John McCain say something that is just blatantly untrue,” Huckabee said. Huckabee later praised McCain, saying “we have a civil approach to presidential process. Neither of us has sought the office by cracking the kneecaps of the other.” But then he figuratively cracked the kneecaps of Romney by questioning the former governor’s veracity.

“There are published reports that I’ve seen in which Mitt Romney did in fact talk about support for – not a public timetable – but a secret timetable that would be held by administration officials and members of Congress,” Huckabee said.

As Paul noted here, McCain's assertion that Romney advocated a timetable is misleading at best. Whereas McCain can legitimately claim to have been more steadfast on Iraq than Romney (or just about anyone else), Huckabee can't.

No its POOP from Powerline, MUSH from Rush and NEGATIVITY from NRO.

Read it and weep Mittbots.

I’m not a fan of McCain, but when you have to start making stuff up about him your getting desperate.

You might want to closely read this article from April 3rd and judge for yourselves.

Romney Embraces Private Iraq ‘Timetables’

While Romney’s embrace of timetable terminology seemed to put some distance between himself and Bush, the former Massachusetts governor also made it clear that he does not support efforts on the part of the Democratic Congress to establish a public timetable.

—snip—

Romney did not indicate how the timetables he favors would be kept private nor did he indicate what steps he thinks the United States should take if the Iraqi government were to fail to meet the privately established timetables and milestones.

I guess if you tell a lie often enough ...

As a Romney supporter from day one, I thought I would be able to hold my nose and vote for McCain if he was the nominee. However, I would never, ever vote for McCain-Huckabee. A blue dog Democrat plus a nanny-state populist who has to wear his religion on his sleeve to gain votes... I might vote Democrat in protest (although in Texas it doesn’t matter much). That said, McCain with a very conservative VP might not even appeal to me today. McCain has proven himself as power hungry as the Clintons, willing to say anything, twist any statement to be elected president. He makes me sick enough to stay home in November, and relinquish my GOP national commitee membership.

Very good. Your point is well taken.

For the purpose of the interview I'll give Huck the benefit of the doubt. They were specifically asking about timetables which is what everyone was pounding Huck about today.

I don't expect Huck or anyone to remember every word uttered by their opponent on every issue.

Giving the Huckster the benefit of a doubt - must be done with great care....

I’ve been around a while -— from Blue Ridge Mountain and Shenandoah River farms, around the world courtesy of the USMC and my former Employer, into Alabama cotton fields and through Huntsville’s Space Business boom and on to the Silicon Valley Technical explosion....

I’ve met a LOT of folks attempting to “sell” me something or convince me of something... By now - I can spot a liar, loser or huckster within the first 5 notes...

This new “Man from Hope” is an unpolished but effective Huckster while dealing with the uninformed or dim witted..

It’s good you don’t expect the Huckster to remember every word uttered by his opponent — because he will also forget every word, promise, commitment, denial, agreement or covenant he makes with CONSERVATIVE voters the instant he’s elected.

We are in deep trouble.

If Mitt does win it all, I can’t wait to see these same people go through contortions defending him.

At first — since my choice fell by the wayside, I was simply going to stay home contemplating my navel and pick the lint out...

Then, when it started to look like the choice was going to be between McCain/Huckstser vs Clinton/Obama - that shook me from my lint picking.....

Now - I’m praying the DNC will be foolish enough to actually nominate Obama, giving us a slim chance to get another half assed Republican elected... Because, right now - all we’ve got running are half assed Republicans...

Of the sorry bunch — probably the lease objectionable is Romney, but I doubt he can get elected.

So, on THIS election day — I fully expect to SKIP the Presidential line on my ballot in protest.. I simply refuse to hold my nose once again and vote for another half assed Republican or fool.

Perhaps after Clinton or Obama muck up things bad enough to throw the Republic into chaos and ruin — Americans might THEN pull their heads out of their asses and demand LEADERS, not lifetime career feckless imbeciles called “politicians”......

I don’t know which issues are most important to you but the Huckster is reliably pro-life, pro-family and pro-gun. There are others I think he’ll be OK on, but you never know.

Who's telling lies here?

Romney was very clearly talking about progress benchmarks.
McCain and his minions have purposely tried to conflate that with withdrawal timetables.
But That's not what Romney was talking about, and he has never been for them.
It is rank dishonesty from McCain and his surrogates.
