BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Authorities said Kathryn Weldon made it clear to Brevard County deputies when they were arresting her that she was the daughter of a congressman and would have lawyers waiting at the jail.
But deputies said she didn't get any special treatment. Weldon, 21, was booked, put in jailhouse clothing and sat in the Brevard County jail for more than three hours waiting to get bailed out.
The oldest child of republican Congressman Dave Weldon is accused of taking off a high heel shoe and hitting a security guard at the County Line Saloon across the face with it.

Congressman Dave Weldon, MD (R-15) announced he will retire from Congress. He plans to return to private practice and wants to spend more time with his family.
There is a scramble to see who will run for the Republicans to fill the seat. Weldon already had Democrat opposition from another space coast MD.
No matter who fills the seat, the space coast has lost seniority at a time of great concern about the gap that follows the retirement of the space shuttle.
Florida / Brevard ping
Don't you know who I am? (smack)
Sure looks like this is “half the story”.
It is not her first brush with the law but yeah, we need to hear it all.

Pretty girl....
Looks like that chick from The Facts of Life, and I don’t mean tootie. :)
Sure hate to hear that we’re losing that guy! He’s been rock solid.
Spoiled brat.
It must be particularly difficult to be both attractive and kind. ...attractive and humble. ...attractive and hard-working.
I have seen far too many attractive people who successfully use their looks for advantage, and let what's real kinda slide.
"After talking with her we feel quite certain she did nothing to merit her arrest and believe this will be collaborated by others," Congressman Weldon wrote. In the meantime, his 8th grade English teacher is planning to send the congressman a dictionary so that he can learn the difference between collaborated and corroborated.
There is more info available in the local newspaper which doesn't allow us to link. It isn't FloridaYesterday.com or FloridaTomorrow.com but Florida_____.com. This will hit the Orlando papers too.
That makes 2 “R” retirements in what? 2 or 3 days? The pace picks up...
Never underestimate the power of a spell-checker or auto correction word processor to introduce a type of that nature, though. I suspect Congressman Dave had a lot on his mind today so he deserves a little slack if his proof-reading isn't up to snuff.
see ... I swear I typed “typo” and not “type”
Why do I have the sneaky suspicion that if he was a Democrat, the paper would have left that detail out?
The County Line Saloon - I used to drive by that place! It’s in a strip mall off US1 in southern Brevard County. It’s a C&W bar ... not my style ;-)
More likely it's the writer who doesn't know the difference.
In the meantime, his 8th grade English teacher is planning to send the congressman a dictionary so that he can learn the difference between collaborated and corroborated.
!
Sounds like just a good ole time at the County Line Saloon.
LOL! I hadn't considered that possibility.

The mistake could have happened anywhere along the chain from his original dictating of the memo all the way through to the newspaper printing it. If his office made the error and the paper caught it, though, they should have annotated it with the "[sic]" designation.
Hitting someone with your shoe is an arrestable offense ?
My mom is soooo lucky the statue of limitations has run out.
>>>That makes 2 R retirements in what? 2 or 3 days?
I believe that make 17 Rs so far that will be retiring at the end of this term.
Not anymore. This is a building in the back of the Waffle House on US 192 at I-95 in West Melbourne. You are remembering the old place and it is now either a bingo hall or was in the plaza nearby that got demolished by the hurricanes a few years back.
Bob Allen and now Weldon.......sigh
Whoa ... please don’t equate Dr. Dave with Bob Allen. No toe tapping in this incident.
She should get together with Noelle and Jenna.
Rock the vote, then puke on it.
It still makes us look bad everytime we lose a politician from this area. Then again didn’t Weldon run on getting term limits passed 20 years ago? *ducks* ;-)
Yep, he had a term limit pledge and in hindsight, pro’ly wishes now that he honored it. You are right in that these scandals will tarnish a pubbie. Comnpare what she did with Sen. Nellie’s kid, though. That didn’t stick to the Senator.
Double news from this family and all of it is upsetting.
Who will run? Haridoupolis, Needelman, Feeney? ALL of them?
Yes he did, then broke the pledge. He has remained a “low key” representative.
Maybe we can use our local energy to support his replacement. I had wondered what I would be doing during the fall races.
Presidential race is not going to excite my interest!
Sigh....
And right during the Fla primary
So now that the Republicans are in the minority and the horizon looks bleaker still for the party, he going to cash in his chips for a lobbying gig. I wonder which NASA contractor corporate board he will be "lawyering" for.
/cynicism
Collaborated? OK
The dauther looks like Nancy Mckeon
The primary for the FL-15 house seat (and FL-24) will be August 26, 2008 and the general election Nov 4, 2008. So there is time for a decent field to develop.
He is a MD and plans to return to private practice. He might end up working for Hillary. :(
Oh! so if she just bruised his face with the foot of the shoe its a misdemeanor but if she ripped his face open with the spike of the heel it is a felony?
Toss the little wench in the clink and let her bear the burdon of her actions. Its assault clear and simple
Don't you hate when you point out someone else's mistake with one of your own?
I meant the presidential primary.
Gee? ya think?
Do we know what he said, or do we just know what the media says he said? Maybe he got it right but somebody wrote it down wrong. Most spell-checks wouldn’t help, because both are real words spelled correctly.
I’m sure that Jenna has cleaned up her act. Now Chelsea is another matter. Don’t you remember the pics of her drunk, falling out of a taxi in London? Oh, that’s right, our media never printed them. They have always protected Chelsea.
If he had been a Democrat, the paper would have identified him as “Rep. Dave Weldon”.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
When we elect someone to office, we get them, their wives, their children, their baggage...
We need to look at the whole picture...
Well, you will say, we are only electing one person as POTUS, sentor, congressman etc...
Think...
With Carter we got Billy Beer...
(Although his sister was a preacher and his Mom in the Peace Corp)
With Bill Clinton we got Hillary... (two for one)
NYC had to endure the embarrassment of Rudy announcing his desire for a divorce to his wife in a loud and clear public forum
President Bush has had trouble with the twins..
No seemingly wholesome family is immune for black sheepitis...
Can you say “Kennedy”
This thread has been infected with a new type of microorganism: The typovirus.
“It must be particularly difficult to be both attractive and kind. ...attractive and humble. ...attractive and hard-working.”
It’s always been pretty easy for me.
And Roger, and Hugh, and Tony...
I just talked to someone who said Haridoupolis and Bill Posey from Rockledge are going after this seat. I haven’t researched either of them yet so....
..Weldon's retirement hit everyone by surprise...
Weldon is a good guy....our loss when he's gone.
