Geckos are neat creatures, and it’s fun to watch them run around. They were helpful in controlling the household mosquito population when I was Okinawa.

Our house is home to a colony of geckos (plus a couple of large anoles) and we have zero pest problems. The little fellas eat every insect they see; I can’t remember ever finding a live bug in our place. Viva geckos.

I was stationed on Guam during the B-52 bombing campaign in '72. I visited a civil servants home just off Andersen Air Force Base for dinner one Sunday afternoon. As we listened to a NFl Game being broadcast on Armed Forces radio we would trek to the kitchen for a beer. While opening my beer I noticed a gecko on the patio window.
I reached for a fly swatter when the lady of the house grabbed my hand. She told me that the gecko was the "house gecko" that was a welcome member of the family because of its bug eating ability. She showed me the dish of sugar water on top of the fridge where I got my beer. A wooden match box was its bed and It was believed that these geckos ate there weight in bugs every week! The Vikings won that game but the gecko was more impressive!
