Fred Thompson Surges in South Carolina?

RUSH: First, Fred Thompson just got some encouraging news. Dr. Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, told the Brody File, which is a blog at the CBN.com website, the Christian Broadcast Network, "My assessment is that at this moment in time it is Fred Thompson's race to lose. It may be a convergence of the right man at the right place at the right time. I have never seen anything like this grassroots swell for Thompson. I'm not speaking for Southern Baptists, but I do believe I have my hand on the pulse of Southern Baptists here, and I think I know where the consensus is." Now, this guy, Dr. Richard Land, does not endorse candidates, but he is a powerful figure in evangelical circles. Why the fascination with Thompson? Land told the Brody File, which is the blog here at the CBN.com, that there are a lot of factors. He believes electability is extremely important, thinks that Thompson may be the best social conservative candidate right now to beat Hillary. He says just look at the head-to-head polling between the two of them, but there's more. It was Land that came up with the term Southern-fried Reagan when describing Thompson, so he's all excited.

I hope Fred can stop McCain/Huck in SC. I was just listening to Jeff Katz in SC interviewing McCain. McCain is STILL insisting on his comprehensive amnesty and plainly said WE don’t know what we’re talking about and that MOST people and ALL experts want the plan he’s been pushing. I hope the people of SC are paying attention.

Fred is everybody’s second choice and has the highest favorability rating of any candidate. Let’s hope the McCaniacs who despise the Huckster and the Huckleberrys who despise McCain will do the right thing and vote for FDT on Saturday.

I’d love to see Fred do well, but what other evidence is there that this is true? This seems from left field.

I just hope evangelicals experience either a miracle or common sense and see right through Huckabee!

McCain sounds a lot today like people who used to front for illegal alien immigrants on this forum. The forum is better off without them, and the party would be a lot better off without the likes of John McCain.

The man is so out of touch on this issue, it’s amazing to me he could be re-elected in his own state.

I wish you could have heard McCain just now. I was stunned how he’s still pushing his senate bill. He lost his temper a couple times, but the interviewer was right on him.

I prefer Thompson to Huckabee or McCain. I think, though, I can wait until Sunday to see how he did. Predictions seem lame today. I think I can also wait until Sunday before I decide the Republican Party is dead.

I will say if the nominee is to be Huckabee, McCain or Giuliani, I will be WAY too busy to watch the convention or work at it this summer. I live in Minneapolis and will stay as far away from it as I can if one of those is to get the nod.

Fred Thompson is the best choice and any conservative who compares his record to the other candidates would realize that. McCain and Huckabee have to lose South Carolina and the nomination.

From the link at #12.

For now, polls suggest John McCain and Mike Huckabee in the lead, followed by Mitt Romney and Fred Thompson. But Doctor Laura Woliver at the University of South Carolina says undecided voters could change everything. "It means you better be careful in your forecasts."

It is never too late. Fred is doing really well. Huckabee is attracting a lot of negative attention over the push poll fiasco. Fred is looking better and better.

Perhaps it’s best I didn’t. I don’t want to buy another television right now.

What program was it on. All kidding aside, I’ll try to catch it if it replays.

And another FR thread:

THE NEVADA CAUCUS: Poll: Nevada going to Clinton, Romney (Romney leads McCain by 19!!)

If McCain and Huckelberry could lose in both Nevada and South Carolina...that would be good....
