But his passionate, Web-savvy supporters have always forged a community online, where sites independent of his campaign such as Daily Paul, Primarily Paul and Ron Paul Nation have continually popped up.

I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it, about Ron Paul:

There is a GREAT case to be made about restoring the nation to strict constitutional principles (most centrally, the notion that the federal government only has limited powers) and a libertarian, personal-responsibility ethos amongst the citizenry.

BUT Dr. Paul is NOT the right guy to carry that flag. Too many skeletons (racist writings under his name in the 70s and 80s) and, IMO, wacky formalism (argues that the AUMF vs. Iraq was invalid because it wasn’t actually CALLED a “declaration of war”), etc.

You're probably right, especially since he's getting a little too old and feeble for a presidential campaign. He has been the most electorally successful libertarian, though, and he deserves some credit for that.

Hey!! Ron Paul just won a straw poll! Maybe someone can finally see his support is NOT coming from conservatives.

A DEMOCRATIC PARTY STRAW POLL

It may be snowing here in Washington, D.C., but the sun is apparently shinning on Congressman Ron Paul, who edged out Senator John McCain in the 2008 Democratic Party Republican Straw Poll. Meanwhile, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani ended up in a familiar place: sixth.

Top 3 results: Candidate % Rep. Ron Paul 25.72%

Sen. John McCain 24.73%

Gov. Mike Huckabee 17.17%
