Giuliani Rattled, Cancels Remarks as Pro-lifers Disrupt Sunday Bus Tour Stop

"A third of my generation is dead because of politicians like Giuliani." -- Steven Pokorny, age 28, at Giuliani during meeting in Miami, Sunday, Jan. 13

MIAMI, Jan. 13 /Christian Newswire/ -- Rudy Giuliani was rattled by pro-life advocates and canceled his speech at his first bus-tour event Sunday in Miami.  Activists have planned confrontations with Rudy for every stop of his Florida bus tour.  Photos available online.

On Sunday, Jan. 13, at approximately 12:15 PM, pro-life activists were in the crowd at The Green Street Cafe (located at 3110 Commodor Plaza, Coconut Grove Florida, just outside Miami) waiting for Giuliani to begin his Florida Bus Tour.

When Rudy Giuliani arrived, Joseph Landry (age 26) was within 5 feet of the candidate, and began yelling: You are a baby killer! You are a baby killer! Florida is pro-life! Rudy wants public funding for abortion!"  See news report. Law enforcement officials immediately escorted Mr. Landry from the area, while Mr. Landry continued his monologue.

Within Minutes, Steven Pokorny, age 28, stood to his feet and cried out, "A third of my generation is dead because of politicians like Giuliani! Giuliani wants to kill children and have you pay for it!" Law enforcement did not stop Mr. Pokorny.

At that point, Giuliani left the building, without addressing the crowd.

Mr. Pokorny was able to follow Mr. Giuliani for more than a minute, yelling out about Rudy's pro-choice, pro-homosexual agenda. Again, Mr. Pokorny was not interrupted by police.

Giuliani officials had no idea how many pro-lifers were in the crowd, and how many more times Giuliani would be confronted. This might explain why Mr. Giuliani did not make any remarks - and left the meeting without addressing supporters.

Pro-lifers have scheduled confrontations with Rudy on every stop of his Florida Bus tour.

Video footage of the confrontations with Rudy is available upon request.

Oh, come on. You act like the be-all and end-all of the pro-life movement is two dudes trailing Rudy Giuliani at campaign stops.

You and I know there are many ways that we who care about this issue are trying, and have been trying for 35 years, to “celebrate life.”

Not every thing that comes into someone’s head is going to be helpful. All I am saying is, “let’s ask ourselves, honestly, if this is helpful or not?”

My view is that it is not. As I have posted elsewhere, I think the MSM will take this and make Rudy out to be a hero in some quarters. Does that help us? No. So why do it when there are a zillion things we can be doing that are helpful?

Yes, people can keep on Rudy about his record, including his support by abortion. This is a must. What is not a “must” is keeping on him in a way that gives him a sympathetic storyline in the MSM.

I’m all for “severe displeasure” with a politician when it is warranted, but don’t play the Jesus card here, please. If you do, explain why, after 35 years and many vicious pro-abortion candidates in this very race, it’s suddenly a holy requirement to protest Rudy Giuliani in such a way that you hand sound and vid bites to our political opponents on a silver platter.

Please don’t act as though these dudes, and their apologists here, are Sir Thomas Moore or something.

They protested in support of a good cause in a dumb way (politically speaking). That’s all.

I’m glad you survived Roe V Wade

One of my chidren is the same age as that brave young man who is in anguish over his generation...

My child also lost that 1/3 of that generation...

Young men and women who should have been starting out in their careers and starti ngf their own families are not with us becauswe we were silenced by these same words in the 1970’s...

This same rhetoric helped murder them..

Passivity and compromise...neutrality and silence....

So the answer is yes, let’s shout them down so their message doesn’t get out.

The I’m back to my original question, how can you be distinguished from Code Pink?

So, can you answer my original question, or does your agenda require you to dance around it?

It is not my place or right to tell other people what to do, how to act, or when to protest. That is their right.

So here we are at post #332 and you are still talking about what you said was not what you were talking about---about how it is "their right" to protest (i.e., it is "allowed"), therefore . . .

Therefore, what? It is their "right," therefore they "should" do it? Or what? What is that you are talking about beyond "it is their right"?

Ugh, and this smug DixieChixian "no one has a right to criticize my protest" line of reasoning is really getting annoying.

Didn’t Ann Coulter and Horowitz have pies or some such thrown at them? Those are criminal acts.

Were they speaking inside private property?

The owners of private property have the right to refuse service or entry to any person for any reason, a criminal act does not need to ensue for that to occur.

Who in the world has told you to “be quiet”? Not me. I think you’re funny.

Nah, just kidding.

But it is rather concerning that you view someone disagreeing with you on the best way to go about advancing a cause as the same thing as telling you to “be quiet.”

That’s very liberal thinking.

If you think public emotional outbursts, faxes, signs and phamphlets will get the job done, ok.

It is not about what "I" think. Where in the Bill of Rights does it say that an individual person's rights may be restricted depending upon what another person thinks or feels?

Barring criminal behaviors, people are allowed to speak their minds freely.

While you were busy partying, 50 million unborn babies were being slaughtered...

You didnt “try” anything to stop abortion...

you just tried to stop the pro-life movement just as you are doing now...

By name calling, mocking and discouragement...

You have no answers...

I respect and appreciate those fine young men in Florida who did did something to stop a pro-abortion champion from being elected as the Republican nominee for POTUS

So they were on private property, so what?

The issue of life is so important, so over riding that it nothing else matters. Or so it was argued to me up-thread.

Somehow you yourself respect private property rights, but not the wishes of the Founding Fathers?

So if this stunt ends up making Rudy look like a stronger candidate, as it very well might do by the time the MSM and his fundraisers get done with it, do you still think it was a good idea and it really helped the pro-life movement?

Thank you very much. It seems a sad commentary on the state of the nation when we have to declare our "survivorship," but such is the case.

One of my chidren is the same age as that brave young man who is in anguish over his generation...

Killed by choice. Sometimes I wonder about the friends I might have had and the great minds that were probably lost. It may, from a distance, appear to be merely a matter of numbers, but can you really fathom tens of millions of would-be Americans that will never be? They would be having children of their own now.

This same rhetoric helped murder them.. Passivity and compromise...neutrality and silence....

Again, I point towards the politician's love of abstraction: it is the best way to say nothing at all and justify just about anything.

Your excellent post bears repeating:

Fanantical, wacko behavior is fanatical, wacko behavior and is perceived as such, regardless of the message being promulgated.

Selling your position is more than half the battle. If pro-life activists continue to make spectacles of themselves, abortion will remain legal for a long, long, time.

What works is grass roots activism, winning new pro-life converts through education and public awareness. Then you start to activate at the local political level to create the changes necessary. All politics is local. Rally behind pro-life candidates, judges, etc. The only way to do this is to create critical mass, and operate through local organizations, and the political and judicial process.

You, my friend, are wildly past your sell-by date if you think protesting Rudy Giuliani, or even keeping him from the Republican nomination, is going to do one iota to stop abortion.

There’s a little more to it than that.

And this point is especially true if the type, time and manner of protests, as well as the response of those protested, backfires on the pro-life movement instead of advancing it.

See any forests lately?

That is an excellent post. It is a case that I have made recently on the pro-life threads, almost verbatim. In other words, ditto that. ;)
