AP Rewrites Rathergate History
AP via yahoo & lgf ^ | 1/12/2008

It looks like the judge in Dan Rather’s lawsuit against CBS may let the case go to trial.

But the fascinating thing about this Associated Press article on the case is how they describe the Rathergate scandal—without even mentioning that it was based on fake documents.

Rather was removed from his “CBS Evening News” post in March 2005, six months after he narrated a report that said Bush disobeyed orders and shirked some of his duties during his National Guard service. The report also said a commander felt pressured to sugarcoat Bush’s record.

I would prefer to ignore this suit. It’s probably as phoney as the documents...just another distraction.

Rather, whose last months at CBS were clouded by a disputed story on President Bush's Vietnam-era military service, says his employers made him a "scapegoat" to placate the White House after questions arose about the story.

"Questions arose about the story."????? LOL. More like the whole basis for the story was based on fraud. Nice Clintonesque spin.

AP's first re-write of history. Mary Mapes had worked this story since W was governor of Texas and couldn't make it stick.
Remember those airbrushed pictures of old Soviet communist bosses ? Here's one from AP.

"Allowing the case to go forward with discovery will put us on the road to finding out what really happened involving big corporations and powerful interests in Washington and their intrusions into newsrooms, which is the reason I'm here," Rather said. "That is the red, beating heart of this case."

I'm Dan Rather, Moonbat. Good night.

Somehow I doubt that.

More likely two equally corrupt groups are going to conspire to write some history to influence the election.

There needs to be a third party in this lawsuit to prevent that from happening.

I think the correct word should be fabricated not forged.
Fake is good too.

I think someone said that a "special master" should be appointed for this case? That was I think Congressman Billybob.

Every court of general jurisdiction has the power to appoint Special Masters to examine particular facts in a case and report back. Masters are routinely used when the central issue is highly technical. But there’s another reason to use a Master. When there’s reason to believe both the parties in a case have cause to slant the central facts, the court can and should appoint a Master to make an unbiased examination.

This case is not just about Rather against CBS. It is also about the integrity, or lack of integrity, of the American news media. For about a week after this broadcast, the media circled the wagons to protect both Rather and CBS. Not until the blogosphere forced the issue, did the media change their conclusions.

Correct, a forgery is a fake version of an original or valid document.

These were fakes manufactured out of whole cloth. There was no "original", it didn't exist.
