I had it last November while visiting family. I suspect I caught it during travel (flight from PA to WA). It was very sudden and brutal. My mom was pretty concerned. Thankfully, no one else in my family caught it. It passed quickly and I enjoyed the rest of my vacation.

I knew a drummer who choked to death on vomit. Actually, the fact of the matter is, well, it was someone elses vomit. They never determined whose vomit it was...

Well I’m very sorry but Scotland Yard did not have the resources to determine the origin of the vomit!
It’s not like you can just go in and dust for vomit!

Yes; my friends infant twins were struck with this in NY, two years ago. It was hideously awful.

Most call it the Stomach Flu (influenza is a respiratory disease, not a gastro), or Acute Gastroenteritis."
I had it and puked and shit here in southern CA 2 weeks ago. I know of other people I had no contact with that got it. It is a virus. Take whatever anti-viral prescription you have around when you can keep something down. Small sips of orange juice works. I had penicillin and ampicillin and took them both.
Then you wake up looking like a vampire in a good mood and pig out at Carl's Jr. and scare the women around for fun:)

"How does this happen in a civilized country with the best healthcare system in the world?"By people not washing their hands or cleaning commonly-used surfaces (counters, flush handles, sinks, faucet handles, etc.).
There you go. No charge for that.

"More and more third world food handlers." The contaminant most frequently found on public keyboards is human feces.
