People do use the theory in other things, most notably politics (which is what the article is about), but that has never had much to do with reality.
I have to assume that your version of the pharmaceutical industry doesn’t produce antibiotics.
The claim was, "Nobody uses the theory in real life. It has no value.". That was a general conclusion, posted after the specific anecdotal statement was given. The truth of the matter is that, the tools of evolutionary theory are used in medical research. That includes the pharmaceutical industry. For instance the mathematics of evolutionary dynamics, or adaptive dynamics can be used to evaluate the potential temporal effectiveness of a drug. Also, evolutionary branching gives similarities and constraints for vet medicines.

Reality is not defined, limited or changed by any claims that limit it's scope. The article is about political attempts to inject nonscience into science classes, through govm't action and the reactions to it. Evolution is a scientific theory and there are no scientific alternatives to evolution. The political efforts to corrupt both science and scientific education are fundamentally efforts to corrupt and replace truth with falsehoods.
