The Woman Who Elicited Clinton's Emotion She Was Moved By Barack Obama, But She Moved Hillary Clinton
PORTSMOUTH, N.H., Jan. 7, 2008
Clinton Fights Back Tears "CBS News RAW": Hillary Clinton gives an emotional response at a campaign stop in Portsmouth, N.H., when a woman asks her how she stays "upbeat" on the trail.
(CBS) It's been a busy couple of days for Marianne Pernold Young, as far as presidential candidates go. She saw Barack Obama speak on Saturday.
"But you know, he moved me to tears," Young, a freelance photographer, told CBS News chief White House correspondent Jim Axelrod.
Today was her turn to move a candidate to tears - when a question about how the candidate keeps it all together caused Hillary Clinton to show a side of her you never see.
"It shows she's a human being," Young said.
Undecided when she woke up, Young's now leaning strongly toward Clinton.
"She showed emotion," Young said. "She was there for me. She is there for all of us."
One of Clinton's rivals didn't see if that way at all - implying she was soft.
"Presidential campaigns are tough business, but being president of the United States is also a very tough business," said John Edwards.
Others will question if it was for real. Not Young.
Axelrod said to her: "People all over this country are watching this moment, and a fair number of them will say she was doing it for the camera."
"I don't think so at all," Young said. "Could you do that? Could you be moved to ... could you cry like that?"
So after thousands of questions asked by the most aggressive reporters in the last 16 years, and never showing a hint of emotion, it's a 64-year-old freelance photographer who elicits such an emotional response from Hillary Clinton.
This from Jimmy Carter’s photographer?
Sure, unbiased as the driven snow.
guess she just knew how to throw the estrogen switch
Anyone care to dig into Marianne Pernold Young’s background. She’s gotta be on tyhe payroll.
Smells like a setup.
Who does your hair..
Obama is going to have to do well in Florida to be competitive for Super Tuesday. That may be where she makes her stand.
The wind and my fingers. And I like to swing it side to side.
OMG...you are SOOOOO bad! LOL!
In your wildest dreams, could you ever imagine changing your vote because somebody cried, proving they CARE ABOUT YOU? it’s insane. just insane.
Almost suitable for the "Top 25 Men Who Look Like Old Lesbians" thread from yesterday.
What, now crying’s an accomplishment? HRC is playing into the ugliest stereotypes of female politicians (or leaders of any sort) — i.e. they’re too emotional to trust with the button. It’s shameful and sad. Rather than showing by example that women can lead; HRC chose to set back the cause of women in politics several decades — all for short term gain. Margaret Thatcher would have given her a good thumping.
Ouch. Hardball question there.
