Shaken Clinton Camp prepares for Trench Warfare (After N.H.)
The Hillary Project ^ | 1-07-08 | Thomas B. Edsall

Hillary Clinton's campaign, anticipating probable defeat here in New Hampshire on January 8, is gearing up for an extended trench-warfare battle against Barack Obama.

The former First Lady is planning to fight Obama in South Carolina on January 26, and in the gargantuan nationwide primary on Tuesday, February 5 -- with contests in 19 states, including New York, California, New Jersey, Georgia, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and Colorado. If she remains competitive, Clinton's plan is to continue to compete in Louisiana on February 9, in Virginia and Maryland on February 12, in Wisconsin on February 19, in Ohio on March 4 -- and beyond, if necessary.

In an approach redolent of Walter Mondale's 1984 "Where's the Beef?" tactic against Gary Hart, Clinton has adopted the less memorable slogan "Rhetoric vs. Results, Talk vs. Action."

The Clinton campaign is sparing no effort to pressure the media to lean on Obama's perceived vulnerabilities.

Looking to leverage Obama's slender resume, a Clinton operative argued to HuffPost that the campaign will be able to demonstrate that "Obama is just not a plausible person in this environment of international peril," and that the longer the primary campaign can be extended, the better chance Clinton will have to prove that "there is not even a second level to Obama, there is no depth."

The results of this gambit are far from certain. Many political observers here see Hillary on the ropes. "I think Iowa was the best she is going to do. Now she has the stink of a loser on her," said an official from the upper echelons of the 2004 Democratic campaign. In the upcoming states, voters "are just now starting to pay attention, and all they know is that he [Obama] is a winner and she's a loser."

Like Mondale in 1984, Clinton is configuring her campaign to win in states where independents cannot vote. "Clinton got killed among independents and those few Republicans who crossed over," an Iowa operative noted about last Thursday's caucuses. After this Tuesday's New Hampshire primary, where independents can cast ballots in either the Democratic or Republican contest, "We are just going to go to the big Democratic states with closed primaries" says a member of the Clinton inner circle.

Political analyst Norm Ornstein of the American Enterprise Institute warned, "Tactical maneuvering at this point is of limited value, but all [Clinton] may be able to do for the moment is to try tactical stuff, and lash herself to the mast to withstand the [Obama] wave."

What people better not forget is that Hillary LEADS already in delegates because of the “Super Delegates.” These are the delegates controlled by the party machine, which the Clintons control. Obama needs to win two delegates to her one all the way out to have enough to win the nomination.

As I said in another post---she already LEADS in the superdelegates, and they are a huge part of the process. I think Obama needs to win two delegates to her one all the way out to defeat her. And is you thought Chicago in 1968 was bad, wait till the base sees that "despite winning the popular vote," Obama loses the "election."

These delegates are party hacks who can pretty much do their own thing based on meetings in “smoke filled rooms.” They are NOT tied to any primaries or caucuses. So while Barack has been walking the streets lining up a handful of delegates in IA, Hillary’s cronies have been quietly lining up the party thugs in back rooms and laying out the “Cuomo scenario” to them. She LEADS in total delegates, right now-—something that most people don’t know.

Democrats just want to win the White House back. Sure Hillary was the front runner for awhile, but the more people see/hear Obama, they are flocking to him, they know Hillary has many negatives nationwide and people will just go to vote to vote against her. They did it in Iowa and they will do it in New Hampshire.
So after she is out and they are left with Obama, then what?? He won't hold up in a debate with Romney, who I am thinking will be the nominee. Republicans want someone who can win also. So they will put their best chance up against our best chance, only theirs is unbelievebly inexperienced.
I told my mom on the last day of her life Nov.12 not to worry about Hillary she is toast and that Romney would be president. I'm sticking with that.

But, they were all eagerness again, as Ahab, now half-revolving in his pivot-hole, with one hand reaching high up a shroud, and tightly, almost convulsively grasping it, addressed them thus: -

"All ye mast-headers have before now heard me give orders about a White Whale. Look ye! d'ye see this Spanish ounce of gold? - holding up a broad bright coin to the sun - it is a sixteen dollar piece, men. D'ye see it? Mr. Starbuck, hand me yon top- maul."

While the mate was getting the hammer, Ahab, without speaking, was slowly rubbing the gold piece against the skirts of his jacket, as if to heighten its lustre, and without using any words was meanwhile lowly humming to himself, producing a sound so strangely muffled and inarticulate that it seemed the mechanical humming of the wheels of his vitality in him.

Receiving the top-maul from Starbuck, he advanced towards the main-mast with the hammer uplifted in one hand, exhibiting the gold with the other, and with a high raised voice exclaiming: Whosoever of ye raises me a white-headed whale with a wrinkled brow and a crooked jaw; whosoever of ye raises me that white-headed whale, with three holes punctured in his starboard fluke - look ye, whosoever of ye raises me that same white whale, he shall have this gold ounce, my boys!

"Huzza! huzza!" cried the seamen, as with swinging tarpaulins they hailed the act of nailing the gold to the mast.

It's a white whale," I say, resumed Ahab, as he threw down

Good analysis, however, Spitzer is struggling with his own issues in NY.

During a December 2007 break from the Iowa Gang Obaming of Hill, Big Brown delivered the Sad Hill in her big brown and ugly pant suit to light up a meeting for her in Gilford, NH!

Then the Hill lights up the Gilford, NH Meeting with her charm and energy!
