Richard Viguerie Says Huckabee Win is Bad News for GOP
Christian Newswire ^ | January 3, 2008 | Bob Sturm

Richard A. Viguerie, the author of Conservatives Betrayed: How George W. Bush and Other Big Government Republicans Hijacked the Conservative Cause (Bonus Books, 2006), issued the following statement regarding Mike Huckabee's victory in the Iowa caucuses:

"Mike Huckabee's victory in the Iowa caucuses is bad news for the Republican Party.

"Mike Huckabee is a Christian socialist. He is a good man, but with a Big Government heart. He is the most liberal of all the Republican presidential candidates on economic issues.

"Huckabee's approach to every problem or perceived problem is to pass a law and launch another government program. If you like President George W. Bush, you'll love Mike Huckabee.

"If, on the other hand, you're a limited government conservative in the grand tradition of Robert A. Taft, Barry Goldwater, and Ronald Reagan, you will want to redouble your efforts to make sure Huckabee doesn't win the Republican nomination. Four years of a Huckabee presidency would ensure that there wouldn't be a penny's worth of differences between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party on economic issues.

I watched him closely at the debate tonight. He just pulls nonsense right out of his ass.

"Mike Huckabee is a Christian socialist."

He wasn't regarded as a socialist while he was governor here.

If he wins, perhaps Viguerie will be pleasantly surprised.

Bad idea.

Richard Viguerie should focus his attacks on John McCain. HE would mean the end of this country, not Huckabee.

The conserve-my-money-only conservatives are on the warpath about Huckabee.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Or, get a full set of priorities and join the Huckabee campaign.

Viguerie “raised money for Judicial Watch” and is associated with Larry Klayman.

The Democrat Media, with the permission of the Republican Party, has managed to exclude conservatism from the GOP presidential primary. And it’s only possible because the people themselves are asleep at the switch.

Individual CONSERVATIVE candidates only!

Tonight, the Huckster pretty much admitted that he is indeed in support of amnesty, just as John McCain reveals he still supports amnesty, but of course continues to deny that amnesty is amnesty.

“Christian Socialist”—I LOVE the phrase. It describes exactly the do-gooding, micro-managing vision of not only Huckabee but also Hillary. They are impelled by a sense of mission of how society should be, and feel that their superior understanding of Christianity (after all, they are so much smarter and more spiritual than the rest of us)gives them the right to tell others how to live. The roots of this are deeply entrenched in American (Pilgrims’ collective farming which almost killed them before the division of land, abolitionists, temperance advocates). They don’t understand capitalism, personal responsibility, and that God can work miracles through agents other than government.

Social conservatism arises naturally in a society that is self-reliant. It is a bottom-up thing that starts at the home, in the church and in your local community.

This top-down “take the nation back for Christ” approach from Huckabee and his supporters is so much nonsense. Nanny-statism, whether it is done in the name of Christ or secular humanism, will always result in an amoral, shameless and complacent populace.

We’d classify Hillary as a dyed-in-the-wool socialist.

In Latin America it was called "Liberation Theology". That being somehow Marxist would bring us closer to Christ. If you can believe it.

I think "Open Borders for Jesus" is not that far of a stretch from there.
