Ancient and modern sources identify four possible occasions for the destruction of the Library:

1. Caesar’s conquest 48 BC;
2. The attack of Aurelian in the 3rd century;
3. The decree of Theophilus in 391;
4. The Muslim conquest in 642 or thereafter.

AQ’s target list is not just economic but cultural. To attack the Louvre is to attack Western civilization, which these Islamic fascists reject. Security was already high when I was in Paris in January 2006 and it was not uncommon to see paramilitary forces with automatic weapons patrolling near major monuments. I also believe that the French would have little tolerance for any such attacks and would quickly start rounding up and deporting foreign Muslims.

The French did elect Sarkozy and that’s not nothing.

Interesting. Just looked it up. Apparantly, the actual cause/blame is unknown. One theory says Rome.Another says Muslims.

Everything will be so much better with Obama - why, t’s all because Bush won’t dialogue with them.

Sarko just could be the right man for the job. Last November w spent 3 days in Paris. Everyone there went out of their way to be nice. BTW, the arabs rioted during the same time, 12 miles North of Paris. The French this time let them do it for 2 days then cut the BS.

It is the other way around. You are correct I think that there is no French presence in Saudi Arabia, though there are extensive business ties (at least previously with Saddam) and with Syria. What AQ does have is bases in France == all those carbeques and “youths” are evidence of their existence.

If only Caesar had written commentaries on his African campaign as he did with the Gallic and Civil War campaigns.

Sounds like fascinating reading. I need to hit the library. History is my favorite subject to read, on those rare occasions I get an opportunity to read a book.

Busy people these AQ'ers....between Gadahan calling for a certain persons death....to this....amazing for a group of people hiding in madrassa basements in the boonies of Pakistan.

If AQ wants to destroy Paris and if Islam wants to conquer Europe, it’s up to the Europeans to save their own butts. We aren’t gonna do it for them this time. If they don’t learn from two world wars, that’s their problem, and when they find themselves living under Shariah law, perhaps they’ll wish they’d thought twice.

"Wasn't it Arabs who destroyed the library of Alexandria?"

I'm thinking it was Caesar who did that.

Over the centuries, there may have been several library collections at Alexandria that were acquired and destroyed.
