Dobson: Iowa Shows Christian Right Is Still Strong
AP ^ | Jan 4, 2008

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson said Friday that GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee's victory in the Iowa caucuses shows that Christian conservatives still have considerable influence.

Huckabee easily defeated second-place finisher Mitt Romney in Iowa Thursday thanks to a wave of support from evangelical Christians.

"The results of the Iowa caucuses reveal that conservative Christians remain a powerful force in American politics. That had to be a great shock to those on the far left," Dobson said in a written release.

Dobson criticized what he called media elites, saying they had written off religious conservatives.

Huckabee's victory "was evidence of an energized and highly motivated conservative community," Dobson said. "Not bad for a supposed bunch of demoralized, depressed, disillusioned and disengaged Reaganites."

Dobson said he has not endorsed Huckabee and said the former Arkansas governor may not win the GOP nomination.

In the next test, the New Hampshire primary on Tuesday, Christian conservatives are expected to be less of a force than they were in Iowa.

A wiser man would have kept quiet and let the pundits blow his horn.

If conservative Christians knew the meaning of the word “conservative”, Huckabee wouldn’t have won Iowa.

Dobson shouldn’t blame this fiasco on “Reaganites” It is an insult to all followers of Ronaldus Magnus.

He’s a one issue guy. Kind of like Boortz and the fair tax. The guy could be selling nuclear bomb plans to Iran and Dobson would be in his corner because he’s a pro-life preacher.

No, it shows nothing of this. Dobson is wrong. Mike “Open Borders” Huckabee is “Christian left” or “Christian socialist.” Iowa must be anti Iraq war and that helped him win.

Keep in mind that over half (54%) of the Evangelicals in Iowa voted against Huckabee.

Now that evangelicals have flexed their muscle, they need to exercise their brains.

It is not enough to have a Christian in office. GWB is a Christian and has done more to increase non-defense spending than even Clinton. Last time I checked my Bible said debt is curse and the borrower is servant to the lender. Taxing Peter to pay Paul is theft, paying people not to work is against what James says "he does not work shall not eat". OK we've proved our point - now let's get down to choosing an able man, that fears God, a man of truth that hates covetousness. Huck is neither able and he loves covetousness i.e. the power of government spilling over God ordained jurisdictional boundaries.

Right. I’ve always said an R behind your name doesn’t mean you’re a Republican. Saying you’re a Christian and using it as a selling tool doesn’t mean you’re one either.

“The results of the Iowa caucuses reveal that conservative Christians remain a powerful force in American politics. That had to be a great shock to those on the far left,” Dobson said in a written release.”

Correction:
The results of the Iowa caucuses reveal that some Christian liberals remain powerful in Iowa. That had to be a great shock to those truly conservative...and a boost to those on the left.

...If conservative Christians knew the meaning of the word “conservative”, Huckabee wouldn’t have won Iowa...

ok, I am curious, what is 'conservative?'

I happen to believe I am a 'social-values conservative.' I make that distintcion on purpose, because I want to be separate from those who ONLY care about fiscal, economic matters. But seriously, I want to know where I and people like fall me fall in according to your definition...

Mind you, I don't think it is necessary to belong to a religion or even to be a Christian to be 'social (values) conservative.' Just a person who wants to conserve some moral values or simply values, they feel are important

Thanks.

Exactly.

I wonder what passage in the Bible Dobson uses to justify grandstanding, megalomania?

Iowa shows Christian Right Have Swung Support to Liberal Huckabee! How many times do we have to repeat this mantra? There are NO Conservatives in this race, just communists, socialists, and RINO’s!

Who should they support: Romney, I sure hope not, he’s even worse, the really isn’t another Reaganite in the race other than Duncan Hunter, and possibly Fred or Ron Paul.
