(Adds North Korean media report)

SEOUL, Jan 4 (Reuters) - North Korea said on Friday it would boost its war deterrent, a day after the United States said it was sending its nuclear envoy back to Asia to discuss an atomic disarmament deal on which Pyongyang has missed a deadline.

North Korea failed to fully account for its nuclear weapons programme or answer U.S. suspicions that it has secretly tried to enrich uranium for weapons. It was supposed to have made the declaration by the end of 2007.

"(We) will further strengthen our war deterrent capabilities in response to U.S. attempts to initiate nuclear war," the prickly state's communist party newspaper Rodong Sinmun said in a commentary.

They are up to their usual.

It is developing in the Japanese press, too. I assume ROK is carrying it.

Well, this won't be a news to us, who knew this all along. N. Korean regime is really predictable. Well, to be specific, predictably aggravating and bullying. No amount of diplomatic genius will get around it unless diplomacy is conducted while N. Korean regime is in the cross-hair of military of credible scale.

Anyway, those who should take note ignore it as usual.

Hopefully, this kind of news will have real impact on the third party, the policy makers & legislators on the sideline who could put a break on appeasement fantasy. I hear that some in the Congress recently made such a move, restricting fund for N. Korean (energy?) aid until N. Korea fully declare its nuclear program.

Chris Hill and Condi Rice on the one hand, real national security on the other side, both are in a zero sum game. One has to lose in order for the other to prevail.

Glad you checked in! That was fast!

I know. It is really no suprise. I am only surprised at the

BUSH ADMINSTRATION

and their abject naivete,

which is every bit as bad as that of the

CLINTON ADMINISTRATION.

You know how these negotiating things go, particularly with the DPRK.

Note that the greatest and strongest country on the face of the earth (the United States) in dealing with a puny, yapping poodle of a country (the DPRK) is the ONE who is sending their envoy urgently, to go all the way to the adversary's camp from the USA, straight to Pyongyang, in an urgent rush to work things out. This is the WORST thing diplomatically and strategically you can do with PYONGYANG--palipating all in a rush for "the closed deal at all costs". WHAT IS WRONG WITH THOSE PEOPLE in our nation's capital!!??

You tell Pyongyang, "Look, here was the deadline. You did not meet it. You are not off the US Terror List. If you wish to be forthcoming or discuss, our doors are open. Your envoy can come down to Washington from New York City based on our special travel permission to leave NYC environs. We will be happy to discuss with you in Washington, and we will see you there along with the requirements for this agreement which you had promised."

How weak we appear!!

You are so correct.

We will not find out what the rules of the game are, until they show us what they really plan on doing.

But then, we know the answer, communism for the entire world, with a few ‘chosen’ leaders.

A big AMEN to that.

Watch them prepare for another nuke test now, or launch some more Taepodong or Scuds at or across the sea over Japan.

We will shiver again, and capitulate.

Folks, this is the naked face of NUCLEAR BLACKMAIL, facilitated by people who want Nobel Peace Prizes or prized teaching positions.

Actually everytime I see Condi Rice’s photo in news article, I cannot help getting reminded of Anita Hill, who secured a cushy academic career by railroading Clarence Thomas.
