Maybe it was the pressure of the moment. Being under the Tim Russert spotlight can get to anyone. Under Russert's grilling about guns on this morning's "Meet the Press," former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney claimed an endorsement he'd never won. In answer to questions about whether he would sign an assault weapons ban, Romney said: "Just as the president said, he would have, he would have signed that bill if it came to his desk, and so would have I. And, and, and yet I also was pleased to have the support of the NRA when I ran for governor. I sought it, I seek it now. I'd love to have their support." Later in the interview, he added the following: "I just talked about, about guns. I told you what my position was, and what I, what I did as governor; the fact that I received the endorsement of the NRA." The problem? He was never endorsed by the NRA, and didn't have their official support during his 2002 gubernatorial campaign. The NRA declined to endorse in that race, as was acknowledged by Romney's spokesman this morning. Source: blog.washingtonpost.com
Trivia question........
Where did Tim’s cousin Megan live?
What was her job?
More of the same from “lifelong hunter” Romney.
Mitt. It seems that man would rather climb a tree and tell you a lie than stand with his two feet on the ground and tell you the truth.
I assume you mean Tim Russert. Her cousin? I have no idea. Maybe Mass?
Politician = Liar
And what’s this about he’d sign it IF there was such a thing and IF it might one day possibly maybe come across his desk? A lot of talk about nothing.
Beware of Mitt the gun issue , as it’s the only issue Mitt has not pandered to the Right on . It appears that Mitt supports AWB-2 and is not backing down from his support of it .
Gun owners beware !

As Romney explained in another interview, the NRA set up phone banks and called voters to support him when he ran for governor. It wasn’t an outright official endorsement, but they were supporting him. That sounds like a distinction without a difference to me. The MSM is missing no opportunity to attack Romney as they have done since he started campaigning. I wonder why???? It’s too bad some on this forum are helping them do their dirty work.
Lyin’ sack of anti-gun RINO sh*t.
Has anyone asked the NRA?
I heard him answer this. He said that the NRA ran voter banks asking people to vote for him in 2002 governor race.
I heard Mitt talk about this. As to these anti-Mitt people, it is visceral, they don’t care what Mitt did/does, it will always be wrong...just like bush is always wrong.
If Romney really gave a damn about gun rights , he would know that true AW’s are already highly regulated .
The semi-auto guns he banned function no differently than many hunting arms . He banned them because of their looks , just like Klinton did .
True military AW’s are very strictly regulated , but I guess Mitt doesn’t care, he just wanted the photo-op .
Scary ...
No they did not! Actually someone that was a member of the NRA set up the phone banks, it was not NRA sanctioned.
I have no doubt that willard would sign a law outlawing all semi auto rifles.
Ok jet,you had to go back two weeks and do a repost?
You obviously don’t know the dynamics of the gun issue. To gun owners , the “ so called AWB “ is the line in the sand with candidates , and Mitt fails horribly in that regard .
To say you hunt and support hunting will not cut it , as we all know the Second Amendment is not about hunting . Mitt didn’t get the hint and doesn’t have a clue .
That was also a lie! The NRA never did that and Willard's staff has admitted the same.
Even a broken clock gets it right -- twice a day...
