Pro-Life Group Wants Senate to Give Bush Population Official Another Term

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- A leading pro-life organization says it wants the Senate to give a pro-life Bush administration official who deals with population issues another term. Concerned Women for America says Ellen Sauerbrey should be voted a permanent appointment as assistant secretary for population, refugees and migration.

As LifeNews.com reported, Sauerbrey's recess appointment ended on Monday and the Senate has not acted on Bush's re-nomination.

CWA says some of Sauerbrey's original opponents on other political issues praise her two-year stint as a State Department official who has shown leadership on the numerous fronts.

Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse told LifeNews.com that the Senate Foreign Relations Committee needs to take up Saurbrey's nomination and give it a proper debate and vote.

"When lawmakers left Washington without acting on her nomination, they neglected their responsibilities," Crouse said.

"It is obvious that Mrs. Sauerbrey's support of the president's position on life issues is behind the committee's negligence in acting on her nomination," Crouse explained. "The president deserves to have appointees who agree with his positions and those people who are fleeing war-torn nations deserve to have help in resettling in safe nations."

"The Senate needs to act on Sauerbrey's nomination now," Crouse added. "There is no way that this appointment should be held hostage to the pro-abortion activists when lives are at stake."

Several senators placed holds on the nomination at the time President Bush reappointed her and have since withdrawn them but Congress adjourned for the year without considering Sauerbrey.

The president could use a recess appointment to allow Sauerbrey to continue serving the nation, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is calling for area lawmakers to meet in pro forma sessions to prevent him from doing so.

In her diplomatic post, Sauerbrey has urged the United Nations to not use its documents to coerce nations into approving legalized abortion.

She also called on China to release Chen Guancheng, an attorney who was jailed on bogus charges after calling for the nation to end forced abortions.

Unfortunately, I don’t think there’s a chance that the senate will act on this.

We need to focus on improving things in the next election, which is absolutely crucial.

I just got a letter from Operation Rescue saying that this will be the most important election pro-life forces have ever faced, and that’s saying a lot.

They promise to follow hillary everywhere all over the country with Truth Trucks. No doubt she will duck and dodge and sneak in back doors, but it still should be enough to put her into a perpetual rage, and that’s a plus. And a lot of people will see the trucks go by as the campaign progresses.

“We’re going to take things from you for the common good.” Hit her hard on that one, it could be the quote that kills her candidancy.
