NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN KEEP

Are you sick of making the same resolutions year after year that you never keep?

Why not promise to do something you can actually accomplish? Here are some resolutions that you can use as a starting point:

1. Gain weight. At least 30 pounds.
2. Stop exercising. Waste of time.
3. Read less. Makes you think.
4. Watch more TV. I've been missing some good stuff.
5. Procrastinate more. Starting tomorrow.
6. Not date any of the Baywatch cast.
7. Spend more time at work, surfing with the T1. 8. Take a vacation to someplace important: like, the back of the livingroom sofa.
9. Not jump off a cliff just because everyone else did.
10. Stop bringing lunch from home: I should eat out more.
11. Not have eight children at once.
12. Get in a whole NEW rut!
13. Start being superstitious.
14. Personal goal: bring back disco.
15. Not wrestle with Mike Tyson.
16. Not bet against the New England Patriots.
17. Buy an '83 Eldorado and invest in a really loud stereo system.
18. Get the windows tinted. Buy some fur for the dash.
19. Speak in a monotone voice and only use monosyllabicwords.
20. Only wear jeans that are 2 sizes too small and use a chain or rope for a belt.
21. Spend my summer vacation in Cyberspace.
22. Not eat cloned meat.
23. Create loose ends.
24. Get more toys.
25. Get further in debt.
26. Not believe politicians.
27. Break at least one traffic law.
28. Not drive a motorized vehicle across thin ice.
29. Avoid transmission of inter-species diseases.
30. Avoid airplanes that spontaneously drop 1000 feet.
31. Stay off the MIR space station.
32. Not worry that a new strain of bug will cause the end of the world.
33. Get wired with high-speed net connections at home.
34. Not swim with Pirahnas or sharks.
35. Associate with even worse business clients.
36. Spread out priorities beyond my ability to keep track of them.
37. Wait around for opportunity.
38. Focus on the faults of others.
39. Mope about my faults.
40. Never make New Year's resolutions again.

Profitable For Growth

READ: 2 Timothy 3:10-17

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. —2 Timothy 3:16

Which of the following quotes are in the Bible?

1. Cleanliness is next to godliness.

2. God helps those who help themselves.

3. Confession is good for the soul.

4. Man is born to trouble, as the sparks fly upward.

5. Money is the root of all evil.

6. Honesty is the best policy.

Believe it or not, only one of those quotes is found in the Bible. The fourth one is from Job 5:7.

George Müller, a pastor and orphanage director in the 1800s, wouldn’t have had trouble knowing which of those quotes were from the Bible.  Why? Because he read through it more than 100 times! He said: “I look upon it as a lost day when I have not had a good time over the Word of God. . . . I have always made it a rule never to begin work until I have had a good season with God and His Word. The blessing I have received has been wonderful.”

We don’t need to feel guilty if we don’t read the Bible as much as Müller did. But consider with me reading it through at least once this coming year—not so that we can answer some trick questions about it, but because it was given to us by God and is profitable for our spiritual growth (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

God’s Word is like refreshing rain
That waters crops and seed;
It brings new life to open hearts,
And meets us in our need.  —Sper

Read the Bible to be wise, believe it to be safe, practice it to be holy.

As 2007 winds down, I wax nostalgic and reminisce about the Freeper Canteen and all the good times had over the years. In many ways this has been a rough year for me personally... the death of my Mother-in-law last February, and the untimely death of my Father this past November; other family & friend tragedies and health issues, and many other private struggles. I know I'm not alone in being glad to see this year finally pass. But my family, and good cyber friends here have helped tremendously in get'n me through the dark times, so I want to take a moment to reflect and say my “Thank You’s” if I may.

This old soldier is very proud of all our Troops and Veterans, past and present! Thank you for keeping the faith and our country free! Thanks also to the many Families and Loved Ones for your huge sacrifices and the pain you have endured while your special Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Marine or Coastguardsman served on Freedom’s frontier.

For the Freepers of the Canteen, thank you for your special friendship and for sharing all things nice and patriotic during this past year.

I will miss many things of 2007, but most especially…I miss my Dad. He was a WWII Army Combat Medic and Surgical Technician; a husband and a father. His loss to our family is hard, but we know he spent this Christmas with Jesus. God Bless you Dad!

Happy New Year to everyone!
